Soldier Buried In France

Wife and I were in NZ last year during Remembrance Day. I haven’t seen that much patriotism in this country in years, made me ashamed. Veterans Day is coming, stand up and be counted.

I've visited war cemeteries all over Europe and in Hawaii. The German ones are sad. The British ones are a little better. The French ones are OK. Most of those are scattered and contain relatively few soldiers each. The US ones are quite large and truly phenomenally well-kept.

We and the rest of the free world owe so much to them.

Lest we forget.........

You bring forth an idea not considered.
My Grand Father was killed in WWII in the Battle of Bataan on the Death March… Im quite sure it was a horrible death but I know being my Grand Father he fought them and disobeyed to the end, never giving up the fight! I bet your Grand Father was much the same…
When his remains came home my family had the same choice and my father told me it wasn’t much of one! He is buried in the military cemetery next to his brothers in arms in Tucson Arizona where he was born

FWIW:
We just returned from France where we toured Normandy and the cemetery. There is no place more solemn, cared for, or visited where a soldier could be buried. The grounds are flawless. Over a million visitors per year come to pay their respect. American flags fly in every town nearby. Even the churches have stained glass commemorating the US soldiers.

You should visit.

There are certainly personal and family reasons why a fallen soldier should buried at home, but I would also let the dead soldiers lie where they are, especially if they have a well cared and honored resting place. In my family and circle of acquaintances, some from WWI and WWII are also fallen, with the difference that some are missing in action and nobody know where they are buried, if they are. An uncle of mine is also missing, the last news came 1944 from Ukraine. None of them have a real grave.
