Sold R8 Stock on AH- UPS damaged, trouble get insurance claim

@Challer have always had good luck with the cheaper plastic gun cases. Then put that inside of a box, have not had a problem with that. It will probably be more economical by the time you add shipping for that box. My Fulton Titan did not come in a box like that, it has been a while.

OP, best of luck to you both. I'm batting 0 when it comes to claims on insurance through shipping companies.

It’s for these reasons of great frustration that I never send a gun with shipping insurance. A.) it draws attention, B.) it’s stupid expensive, C.) they don’t pay claims easily.

Eastern Insurance charges me $330 a year for $100,000 in coverage for guns with a $250 deductible. What UPS destroys, they paid and were no-nonsense.

I sold an R8 stock on AH a month or more ago. The stock was damaged in shipment by UPS. They are so difficult to work with and getting claim filed, rifle evaluated for damage, and claim paid.

The stock is a Blaser R8 classic which is impossible to find. They want to have the cracked stock repaired when it is split badly. I cannot even find a price on the stock because they are so hard to find.

I am the seller, and the buyer is waiting on a settlement (AH member). We are both tired of fooling with UPS.

Any advise, they are now sending documents to original FFL shipper to fill out on a stock that is almost impossible to replace.
they have broken 3 guns of mine and my fathers over the last 10 years a Purdey shotgun (run over and bent, dropped from a truck on the highway), a jp Sauer 300 drilling(run over and stock snapped off at the wrist) and a model 70 (run over presumably from case condition, stayed in one piece but scratched up bad. under none of these circumstances have they honored their insurance. I cannot stress the value of third-party insurance.

Send them an invoice for the most expensive R8 stock available that resembles the one you had. Keep pressing!
I used to be in mail order and know that it is a nightmare but you must press on.

That’s terrible. We use US Postal here in Alaska. I’ve had 2 claims in 30 years. And we ship a lot of stuff both ways. Both were paid.

We often times have to convince vendors to try Priority Mail. Sometimes it’s the “company policy” BS so my company policy is to find someone else. As a matter of fact, I just did this last week on some equipment parts, canceled a drop ship and found a dealer. Put in the mail Friday in Oregon, delivered to my box Monday afternoon.

UPS and FEDEX can stuff it. Funny part is that the postal service carries a lot of their stuff anyway. Carries it last that is.

I also use Eastern/Historic. *knock on wood* havent had to experience the claims process thus far but the coverage is better than homeowners (cheaper and easier too) and dont have to worry about insurance through the carrier when shipping. Disadvantage of course would be if you have to make a claim and rates increase if they do that kind of thing

I've experienced their claim process and it was very good. They also asked if I wanted to buy the destroyed gun from them for the residual value, which I agreed to do. (and spent many years having repaired by experts after the fact since they don't want to take possession of a damaged firearm...doing them a favor)

The worst possible insurance is Fedex/UPS. The second worst is a homeowners policy as they rarely pay and they know-nothing about guns and the premiums are 2% of appraised value per year plus the costs of appraisals. Third worst policy is an inland marine policy at about 1%-1.5% of appraised value plus cost of appraisal.

Then there is Eastern Insurance fine firearms insurance at 0.33 basis points of premium per year. It's an unbelievable value that will cover your whole collection for the cost of a single insurance surcharge for a single package with Fedex/UPS.
