So Bye-Bye Miss American Pie

Is there any other whiskey besides Canadian?

The rest is toilet cleaner
@Aaron N - of course there’s other whiskey besides “Canadian” - thank God —-should we start with the good ones or the really good ones? And YES, Canadian Club does get the rust stains out of my toilet bowl !

Given the beautiful high quality firearms our northern brothers have put on display here, I'm a tad bit dismayed by their lack of similar refined taste as regards their choice of adult beverages.

Cheers
Spike

It’s funny how our worst is the most common outside of Canada. I’m not even sure it’s fit for toilet cleaner

IT’s because all the good brands get bought before they make it to the boarder. It’s a proven fact whisky gets worse the further south you go by the time you make it to Mexico they’ve got to put scorpions and worms in it to try an hide the taste.

@Aaron N - maybe our whiskey is the same way in the U.S., No one would serve “Seagram’s 7” to a Real whiskey drinker. Recently a “tip off” that you are Not buying good booze——-if it comes in a PLASTIC bottle !

@CZDiesel - you raise good points and today having a lot of $$$ can easily get you into Top U.S. trophy areas…you can almost “buy” a trophy by being able to afford the ONLY available tag into a trophy limited draw area. If you define a Trophy by score - $$$ is very helpful getting one (Not essential). But, you could consider effort and a DIY hunt, where YOU do EVERYTHING (scout, plan the hunt, stalk, shot, pack out etc..) —-regardless of animal size &. Score - taking a good animal on a DIY hunt is a Trophy. Animals I’ve taken on my own are more meaningful to Me then anything I’ve ever taken with a Guide and they rank at the Top of my trophies…regardless of score.
Yes of course you are right and all of my hunts in my life have been DYI except a couple. The problem is that it is becoming extremely hard to draw good tags anywhere in the west.
Growing up we used to hunt Desert Mule Deer in the wilderness area east of Horseshoe Lake that is just north of Phoenix, AZ. We would also hunt Couse Deer in the Huachucas in Southern AZ and would get drawn every year. There are some big bucks in there and some great hunting! Good luck getting drawn every year now. Now you can go years without being able to hunt if you put in for those units sadly

Crown Royal!

Black velvet or golden wedding either one is miles ahead of crown royal id say Canadian 83 would be about on par with crown royal. To my tastes anyway to each their own.

If we are debating whiskies I have to say you’re all missing the mark for me. If it isn’t made in scotland it is second rate.

I’ve tried basically every bourbon on the market they are all basically a too sweet candy cane for me. I’ve had most of the Canadian whiskies I’d rate them above bourbon but still something flat about them. Don’t get me started on Irish diesel fuels.

But everyone has their own taste and that’s why we have variety. I remember once asking a master sommeliers what he thought he best wine was. His answer alway stuck with me “whichever one you like the best.”

How would you all rate this Canadian whisky, those who have had it? Odd that it showed up at a liquor store as allocated, but could still buy it with another allocated bottle of EH Taylor, Eagle Rare or Blantons bourbon. I had a bottle of Crown Blackberry recently and was not impressed.

The very best we can hope for is an open mind. Put the past...and our favorites...and the " this is what my pappy and grandpappy always drank" behind us... and venture forth.
Canadian, Irish, American whiskeys...always dominate the conversation.
Who would have ever imagined that...ready for it...(drumroll)...Taiwan would be producing some of the finest whiskeys...in the World....bar none.
Don't take my word for it, do the Google thingy...
Kavalan.
It's an ever-changing world boys...eyes wide open.

I think modern war movies made the black plastic gun craze
And once they became feesible and attainable the craze took off

Its a sad state of affairs
Really it's the influence of the American military. Every time the US has adopted a new cartridge or firearm since the .30-40 Krag, every American that joined had to.have something that sprang from the experience. The .30-06 and Springfield rifles came next. Then the .308, although American hunters didn't warm up to semiautomaticS right then. Last was Viet Nam and the M16, the military version of the AR-15. that's the reason people run around trying to kill everything smaller than an elephant with the .223. Even those that were never in the military but did work in law enforcement or corrections as I did, had to learn to handle the AR. I even bought one, but I never have learned to like it, and I've never used it as a hunting rifle.

@CoElkHunter, it feels like microfiber and is nicely made. I may swaddle a bottle of Stagg Jr in it. I think there's a conspiracy afoot. I thought these bottles might be like Blanton's bourbon, with individual stoppers having letters spelling C-A-R-I-B-O-U on them after finding out that this Canadian sourced whisky was bottled at the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Nope! Just a plain old caribou.

Since some have derailed the thread I’ll just be brutal on the fact that Canadian whiskey is garbage! As in pure plastic bottle swill!!!
Anyone who has attended the World Whiskey Awards would gag and throw up a little if asked if that garbage could even be entered along side our best bourbon’s or Rye’s!
Aaaand anyone putting down Jack Daniel’s has obviously not tried the Coy Hill, 12yr, or 10ry let alone the Sinatra or Gold label? Hell good old Jack #7 is better than anything that Canada has to offer
Sorry! You hijacked so I had to tell it straight…
