I remember that Winchester smell from 30/30. Smells the same as IMR 3031, slight ammonia note with burnt gunpowder. Distinct. My bro and I were talking about this. He brought up one that I had forgot about.
Do any of you remember the Winchester factory loads the ones that what ever powder they use. Has a very unique smell.
I not really going to use the word stink
But has a strong enough smell that you can tell it’s probably a Winchester cartridge.
Especially on a colder morning.
In the hunting club we were raised in most of the men used Winchester and from what I remember silvertips.
The old 30-30 and 30-06 all most all had that smell.
I can see and hear it like yesterday
That powder smell frost on the ground and the hounds barking going to the down deer.
Then depending on how many of us were there aunt Joyos frying back strap and baking cornbread on the came house woodedstove
I smelled a flower while walking on safari recently that reminded me of my grandmother. My PH said that it reminded him of his grandmother as well. I guess grandma’s across continents smell similar![]()
100% agree. Also the smell when cotton gets sprayed with de-foliant.Fresh dug peanuts. Any of my South Georgia people can vouch for this. It reminds me of my childhood growing up in a farm family. It also helps mark the start of fall and our archery deer season. The smell bring up so many powerful memories.
