Smells

Smokin' .22 hulls and the smell of squirrel hollows.
Grass fires in Africa.
Two cycle outboard motor exhaust and fog on the water.
Smell of baby pups with their eyes barely open.
Neighbor's BBQ grill firing up back home.
Hot canvas on a tent exposed to Texas summer sun.
Clean fresh smell of the air after a good thunder shower.
Hot coffee and wood smoke from an open fire.

- Floid Blue aftershave after a nice fresh shave with a DE razor combined with a nice hot cup of coffee nearby.
- Unmistakable smell of dead/dying marsh grass at low tide on a winter morning here in NJ, launching my boat to duck hunt.
- That fresh sea-breeze before first light heading offshore.
- Smell of fish-oil heavy in the air from a tuna-slick.
- That first hint of diesel exhaust when we fire up the boat to head out (love and hate with this one)
- The smell of Africa. I can't recall what it is, but it stuck with me. The dust, the scrub, the food, etc.
- My wife's perfume. Marly Delina. Makes me remember the day I married her. One of the best days of my life.

And my favorite:

- The top of my son and daughter's heads. Still smells like it did the day they were born. Maybe it's in my head, maybe it's not. That takes me somewhere. Somewhere I will remember till the day I die. Two of the best days of my life.

Pipe tobacco. My best friend in highschool’s dad smoked a pipe. We’d be bailing hay in the evening and he’d be smoking his pipe between loads. Takes me back to memories of warm summer nights, fresh milk from the cows, and catching brown trout on the fly rod during the hex hatch after dark.
My dad smoked a pipe. I remember it smelling a lot better than those damned cigarettes. As I can't seem to get Gina to quit smoking, I wonder if I could get her to switch to a pipe ;)

Absolutely!!! Same here. It’s not in your head. There have even been tests where mothers and babies have been intentionally mixed up and mothers could easily identify their kid by smelling their head.

My 19yo daughter also still smells the exact same as the day she was born.

I love the smell of Grass Pollen, some people get something they call hay fever from it LOL, but being a Grass Seed Farmer in Oregon when I smell it I know a few more days and it'll be harvest. Peppermint being distilled reminds me that Football season is almost here

The aroma of pipe tobacco takes me to my Grandparents ranch growing up. Grandpa smoked Velvet brand. Still love that smell...

YES! It is distinct, pleasant, calls one back and let's you know you are back and in for adventure;)

The smell of Silage, reminds me of riding in Livestock truck with my Gramps stopping by operations that fed Silage

When I turned 40, a good friend of mine who flies for a major airline, took me back to my country of birth. As I stepped outside the airport, the first thing that came to my mind was the aroma of freshly made strong coffee over an open fire. The aroma brought me back to my childhood days at the family farms, and the smell of the coffee. I couldn't get the smell out of my mind until I had a cup of coffee.

My father's 212 men's perfume is definitely a memory time machine. it takes me back in time like a flashback.

Camelthorn smoke
A freshly dug potato field
The inside of a Browning shotgun hard case
The mix of jet fuel and fresh coffee on an airplane early in the morning

The smell of tomatoes from the field. It reminds me of my childhood, of the guys we went fishing with. Our path passed by a field of tomatoes and we were picking then while no one was looking. And then we went fishing, sprinkled salt on them and ate them. They smelled incredible. In the supermarket, you will never feel such a rich smell of tomatoes. Only approximately. But it immediately takes me back to my childhood.

And tobacco. I remember old people who didn't recognize cigarettes and never bought them. These were old-school people who grow tobacco themselves or took it from the same old people. And so they wrapped the tobacco in thin paper and smoked with pleasure. Now such a smell is very rare. But it also reminds me of my childhood.

Sometimes, I don’t even have to smell the smell. Just the thought of it takes me back. My grandparents had a cedar closet. Just thinking about it, I can smell it and that’s been almost 40 yrs ago.
My dad never fired a gun, but bought me a .22 and signed me up for a junior rifle club. I remember walking into the indoor range and smelling the burnt powder.

My bro and I were talking about this. He brought up one that I had forgot about.
Do any of you remember the Winchester factory loads the ones that what ever powder they use. Has a very unique smell.
I not really going to use the word stink
But has a strong enough smell that you can tell it’s probably a Winchester cartridge.
Especially on a colder morning.
In the hunting club we were raised in most of the men used Winchester and from what I remember silvertips.
The old 30-30 and 30-06 all most all had that smell.
I can see and hear it like yesterday
That powder smell frost on the ground and the hounds barking going to the down deer.
Then depending on how many of us were there aunt Joyos frying back strap and baking cornbread on the came house woodedstove

wood fire in the fall
bacon, eggs and coffee on Sunday mornings,
honeysuckle in the spring
the frickin' pig sty when I had to clean it out

Smells are similar to music , they bring back memories, When I smell mown grass and cigarette smoke it reminds me of Little League, showing my age, tell me about smells that remind you of something, after my first Buck, I wouldn't clean my knife for year because I could still smell the Buck
The smell of sage brush in the high desert of Northwestern Colorado, smoke from a camp fire, and the sulphur smell of burnt black powder.

Here’s an odd one for y’all: Skunk takes me fondly back to childhood. Every summer, our Doberman got sprayed once or twice. There was no getting the smell fully out of her, just had to wait weeks for it to go away. I find the scent strong, but not overly unpleasant. 40+ years later, I smell skunk and I immediately go back to those summers. Good times!

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...
