Thompson Center TCR Custom Crafted by JD Jones owner of SSK. He had a Master engraver do the custom engraving. 470NE. I weighed the rifle with this barrel. It's about 8.5 lbs. It's my favorite! (I haven't shot it yet)

It’s Saturday here again
This is my Winchester thumb trigger 22lr, sometimes referred to as a model 99, which is weird as they were mostly made around 1905 as gallery rifles. Been it my family since early 1900’s. When I found it in my great aunts place after she died, it was rusty and had had the chamber opened up to 25 Steven’s shot shell using a rat tail file and a drill by my uncle sometime in the late 30’s as they had a crate of them for some reason. There were still two tins of them left when I found it in the mid 80’s. It was used to shoot birds out of the fruit trees. I re-lined it with a TJ's liner and cut a 22 lr match chamber in it

After all of those beautiful high dollar single shots I decided to post a useless one. I took this in a multi gun trade 40 years ago it is a German falling block action nitro proofed in the 1930s. It has been re-barreled to 6mm Krag, it has the same twist as the original 6mm Remington so it won’t stabilize any bullet over 87gr. I added the Burris 2-7 scout scope thinking I might hunt with it. I have considered having it rebored to 30-40 Krag.

It’s Friday night here, I’m going to be fairly busy all tomorrow so I thought I’d sneak this one in early.
Another martini cadet, I built this one in 25-35, has a 2x pistol scope and the mount holes for a side mount peep sight, hence the front sight, and a pin for quick action removal for cleaning, has accounted for one deer, several goats, a few hares and numerous kangaroos ( on permit).

I have a question. I have never had the fortunate experience of hunting in Africa. I plan on going after I retire in the next year or two. Im partial to single shots and I have the Thompson Center TCR in the 470 NE. It's a custom barrel, I posted a pic earlier in the thread. It has built into it not a true muzzle Break not a true Magna port, kinda in-between I guess. It's my understanding that PH's don't want you to use Muzzle breaks because it increases the noise. Would this disqualify this rifle from a DG hunt?

Single shot first and then a break….that merits a conversation with the PH before you consider taking it on a dangerous game safari.

I 100 % agree with you! I don't think I would consider it esp. as a 1st time DG experience. Im questioning whether it could ever be used because of the muzzle break.

I didn’t have the heart to force the CVA Scout (.450 Bushy) in this family pic.
Fantastic! Why does Ruger put a break on the 450? Does the muzzle have that much lift?

Not at all. Like I mentioned in the “family pic”, I also have the CVA Scout in .450 Bushy. I don’t find that braked or brake less have much difference in recoil. That being said, I don't find the recoil in that caliber anything to write home about. It’s stout, but very manageable.

461 Gibbs No.2 Farquharson.
I've owned this rifle for many years now and it is the first totally original Gibbs Farquharson I ever owned. In reality, the only Gibbs Farquharson I've owned which hasn't been altered in any way from when it left the Bristol factory.
For sure one of my favorite rifles!

Just did a rough inventory in my head and I'd forgotten how many single shots I have! Most of my guns are single shots- at least 23. Of those, 17 are old originals, mostly muzzleloaders along with a stray 577 Snider MK III, a 45-70 Trapdoor and a 577-450 M-H Enfield from the Nepal cache,

Hard to pick my favorite single shot, though....

Pic of two, among many. Both scary accurate.

Top an original US Model 1841 54 caliber "Mississippi Rifle" with rare 48" twist bore.

Bottom a 54 cal J-S Hawken replica I put together in 1975- Melton lock and trigger, H&H barrel.

Impatiently waiting a 9.3x57r (360 2 1/4 BPE) German stalking rifle. The seller is shipping Monday. I will post photos when it arrives.

This is my 600NE . It has a 26 inch barrel and weighs 13.5 pounds . It is included in the Cal Pappas book on 600NE rifles . It was used for the trial loads for both the Woodleigh reloading manual and Graeme Wrights books. It is a falling block based on the Gibbs Farquharson action . One of about a dozen made ( 600 & 577 ) in early 1990s. I have used Kynoch ammo which is positively anaemic as far as performance is concerned - only about 1800fps . A very different beast with hand loads running at circa 1950-2000 fps . A surprisingly easy rifle to shoot . Nowhere near as bad as all the hype would lead one to believe .
