Sights for Dangerous Game rifles?

Aimpoint.....

Any thoughts by on the vortex defender st red dot? It’s held up so far on a turkey gun. 3.5-3 inch 12. Not a 410 fan. Is moving up to a RMR or an Aimpoint durability wise warranted?
I've had two Vortex RDO's fail me. One on my Benelli SBE2 the day before a turkey hunt, the other on my carry pistol. As a result of these failures, I would not use one of their products if they paid me. Sure, they have a good warranty, but what good is that when I'm shooting 4" left with 12 hours until the season opens.

I've moved to AimPoint or Trijicon for my protection firearms. If I were mounting a RDO on a DG rifle, it would also be an AimPoint or Trijicon. I'm done with the cheap Chineese crap. Buy once, cry once.

I wouldn't tell you what to do, just that the durability that I've dished out was well below "military grade" and the Vortex RDO's failed quite easily. There are a host of better options. I haven't tried any SIG RDO's but I've heard good things and their Romeo line in made in the US.

I had a .458 that I played with for years. I had a 1-3 Weaver mounted on that rifle, as well as several others. Those scopes will take a beating. Set on 1 they are quicker than iron sights, once you are "practiced up". We have even better low power scopes available now. A "whiplash injury", took all the fun out of the .458 and I let it go.

Thanks. The vortex defender has held up well so far. Have looked at the lpvo route. Both ph’s suggested that over a rdo for the hunter that I have consulted. Somewhat contradictory as both use rdo’s on their rifles. Mounting on a 458 so not a long range rig. Thanks again
