Shortage of premium bullets

Well, Midway changed their "free shipping" policy. Instead of EVERYTHING bought over $49 is/was free shipping, now it must be a "qualifying product" with "free shipping" next to it and that eliminates a lot of items including most, if not all, reloading components and ammo. 'Ol Larry has gotten quite innovative lately?
Indeed! Got hung up with that distinction earlier this year-shotgun ammo was NOT a qualifying product. But all the lead ordered today is! Oh yeah, it doesn't just happen automatically either. You have to click on the offer to activate the free shipping.

I found Norma .375 H&H and 7X57 brass at Duck Creek Sporting Goods a few days ago. They shipped timely and I rec'd the package quickly. Price was right.

Good timing on this post! Never used Duck Creek before, but they still had some 375HH brass at a decent price, so.....Thanks!

I don't even bother with Midway's free shipping. They send it that morphodite combined abomination where it leaves Midway by either UPS or Fedex, then when it gets near the destination the package goes to a transfer station where the USPS picks it up for delivery. the problem is that someone is intent of sabotaging the system because UPS/Fedex says they gave it to USPS but USPS doesn't show that they receive it for about 3 or 4 days. So a package gets close to the purchaser but the last leg adds several days. so I choose to pay a few bucks extra and have it sent USPS flat rate- gets here just as fast and has a tracking number.

Midway has pricing on ..not in stock…items that is so rediculous in pricing that it is a moot point since they DO NOT have it to ship,,,even Grafs is less Dollars for their not in stock…Ol Larry is getting too greedy. Nosler is living in a different universe with their pricing….they have surpassed Swift in their current pricing. If you can find the inventory. In August while cull hunt in Namibia I used the 180 grain Speer Hot Core…very accurate and perfect mushroom with 65 to 70 per cent retention. Wildebeast, Oryx and Zebra. 30 06 2750 FPS. Was also using the 165 gr Hammer bullets, but switched to the Hot Core….will say no more.

For my eventual PG hunt, some of the game will be getting 225gr. Remington Core Lokts out of my .338WM and I’m sure they won’t complain. The elk I’ve shot with them haven’t. I also have a box of bonded Core Lokt Ultras and a box each of Partitions and Accubonds. I’m still in the hunt for some A Frames and/or TSXs. Hopefully, the availability of .338 ammo and /or bullets will increase in the next few months as some other cartridges have recently?

Swift themselves are out of .338 bullets, but they do have an email notification system for when things come back in stock, and I'd bet their inventory is replenished before they ship to anyone else.

I’ve been using the Speer hot cor and it’s predecessor for 40 years on thin skinned game. I find them very accurate and reliable. I don’t know if you guys have noticed, but Speer is selling these directly from their website as they do runs. You just have to buy when they pop up. I’ve bought 8mm and 9.3 over the past few months at reasonable pricing. I keep checking for 7 mm but nothing so far.

Hodgdon does the same thing with powder. I've placed a couple orders directly when they showed powders I was looking for as available.
I've taken a lot of game with Speer bullets and Remington CoreLoks. There are a few hundred 270gr Speers headed my way right now. I have no doubt they will do a fine job on any game they might be used for. For me, the most important aspect of a bullet is how well my particular rifle likes it.

But you don't want to contact them about an estimate of availability. the guy at customer service has taken one too many questions in that regard. I've been watching for about a year for availability on their .475" bullets and he was rude even for a general estimate (months, years, ever) when they would be available.

On the plus side, when I tested bullets with water impact, the Speer Mag tip performed the best of any "standard" bullet. another plus was that they had the same loading and trajectory characteristics as Bitterroots of the same weight. so i could load develop/sight with the more available Speers (at least they were at the time) and save the BBCs for the hunt.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
