I ran over to a friends sand pit to quickly shoot two rifles I acquired last month and hadn’t shot yet. A bergara BMR .22LR and a 1939 Model 70 in .300 H&H

First up the Bergara BMR.
It’s a quality package all the way around. I installed a cheap scope on it and shot it without dialing it in. Strictly to learn how it shot.

I first shot it suppressed and then removed the suppressor. 100 yards with CCI clean suppressor ammo. 15 mph Full value wind from the left

The suppressed group is circled in blue. Aiming for the upper right square. The left group is without the suppressor aiming at upper left square. This rifle deserves a good scope, a bench and some quality ammo. It’s a keeper.

Next, a Model 70 pre WW1 .300H&H
My eyes are not buckhorn iron sight certified any longer so this is more to verify if the rifle is as it appears to be. Good condition with a clean bore. Using old factory ammo I got with the rifle.

Also 100 yards. Oddly the first group (circled in blue) was as I expected and not bad for my poor skills with buckhorn irons.

The second group was surprising. Maybe the bore needs some copper laid down. Or likes a more fouled bore. Aiming at the center

This one is also a keeper. I just bought a Ziess Divari 3x9-36 so this might get that scope.

Hendershots is loading ammo for it now.

Nice ! A Pre ‘64 Winchester Model 70 in .300 Holland & Holland Magnum (loaded with 200Gr Swift A Frames) is a magnificent plain game & leopard rifle for Africa.

Fantastic rifles, both of them. I have found that .22s can be very particular about what ammo shoots best. I’m sure that Bergara is more forgiving, but I’d definitely try several styles and brands.

The Win 70 is really something.

Really like this one!!!

Would love to have a .300 H&H Model 70. Suppressed rimfire, particularly out of a bolt gun, makes me smile.

Those will both hunt so to say.

In my Begara B14 HMR 22lr I have found that the SK long range have given me the best results or that ammo I have shot so far. You might try the SK and laupua ammo in your BMR

Thanks Dave. My daughter used Lapua .22 ammo when she was a teenager competing. We got far fewer fliers using the Lapua

I’ll try booth of those. Thanks.

Couldn’t find any Lapua Center X so bought the SK. If that doesn’t shoot. I’ll try Eley

I put probably a dozen different .22 types through my Win 52C when my cousin handed me a cheap box of Remington Subsonics. Needless to say, I stopped looking for something that shot better. :)

I don’t want you shooting at me. Well done!

nice shooting Zinz. I’ll take several brands next time I shoot it. I’ve got some Rem sub sonics
I’ll try those. And pick a less windy day.

Not sure your price range. Have a 375 H&H with a muzzle brake. Nice rifle only fired a few times. Also a Mossberg 375 Ruger its been used and shows a few hunts on it.
Two African Safaris Hunted South Africa both times,
9 game animals taken
Has anybody hunted with Phumba safari in steenbokpan south Africa?
