'Shooting the British Double Rifle' new 4th edition

Ordered one from Buffalo arms today! I am quite excited , prices on previous editions made me cringe a bit. So glad this 4th edition came out, and was well priced!

With the 4th edition out, I expect the price of the previous editions to tumble. The 4th covers and enhances the previous editions.
It crossed my mind to buy multiples for resale value, but I figured that after the demand for old editions they would be printing a healthy number, and there are enough books going for wild prices (looking at you, Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles) that I’d rather as many be sold for reasonable prices as possible.

My two copies just arrived today. They were priced at $65/EA plus postage. UInfortuantely Buffalo Arms does not used USPS for book so insted of costing $6 - $7 for shipping, it was $21.77.

However, considering this version is an updated and improved version of the older book, the price is well worth what I paid.

I bought 2 copies so I could give a copy to a friend.

However, if anyone wants to buy my 3rd edition for $500 or more, I will be glad to sell it to you,:LOL::LOL:

As stated above, I’m not the biggest proponent of FedEx for media mail, but I’m very pleased with how BA packaged the book for shipping. The sealed bag for the book does not go unnoticed or unappreciated and the book arrived in perfect condition. Very pleased with the purchase from and interaction with BA.

interesting reading the latest version...my take is he seems to recommend using slower burning powders without a filler yet on only two occasions does he mention the increase in recoil. I would never ever compare myself to this great man's expertise...however, his recommended IMR or H4831 at his correct 100 grains will kick the shit out of you...he only says it has more recoil...try it and see how much it kicks you...I much prefer his overall recommended RL 15 although I now use the RL 15.5 with filler as it seems to be his all-time choice...I was excited to see if he had to choose one rifle, he would choose what I just got which is the 450 NE caliber. Cool!!!

I'm not sure but it seems that you are saying that RL15 loads recoil less than with H4831. Is this with equal velocities that you have measured with a cronograph?

Absolutely given the 8 DRs I have owned. As an example QL gave me 112 grains of H4831SC to achieve 2150 FPS in my 470 NE while RL 15.5 gave me 84 grains to achieve the same 2150 FPS. The former will kick the shit out of you the latter is a pussy cat.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
