Shoot with one eye open, and one closed, or both open?

Depends on distance, sights, and speed of shot. Low mag/irons, quick shot, and/or close distance is naturally both eyes open. Higher mag, drawing a fine bead, and/or concentrating on a precision shot I'll be using just one eye.

One eye closed. I commited to keeping both eyes open for a while, and did alright with a rifle, but I started getting streaks of mystery misses while shooting trap. I found that the non dominant eye would occasionally take over and so I went back to closing one eye for all shooting.

I shoot both eyes open, but haven’t shot enough trap to know if it affects me there. I like being able to see what’s going on around me, helps me read the wind etc.

For dangerous game, it would seem to be advsntsgeous.

I shoot both eyes open. I’m lucky that when I look through a scope my dominant eye immediately takes over so I don’t need to close other. When I shoot with red dot (true 1x) it’s really nice to shoot both eyes open but still have perception of everything around you.

Great question. I know when I’m shooting a pistol with either open sights or a red dot I have both eyes open. I know I shoot a scoped rifle with only my right eye open and I don’t remember when shooting a shotgun? I’ll have to check that. Thanks for reminding me/us to pay attention to that.

Both eyes open - handgun, shotgun, or rifle. Dominate eye rules.

Pistols or shotguns I have both eyes open, even with a scoped pistol.

For some reason I can't shoot a rifle with both eyes open. I've tried but just can't do it

I do both eyes closed. That way I never see myself miss!

Rifle with scope 3x or higher: one eye open
Rifle w/ low power scope or iron sights, handgun and shotgun: both eyes open

With a scoped rifle I keep both eyes open until I am satisfied with target acquisition, and then close my non-dominant eye before I shoot.

Why close?

Would you elaborate on why so?

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
