I know everyone is always wondering about prices. Here is my quotes. I live in Ohio so I don't think ocean freight to Houston is going to save me much. The crate has shoulder mounts of 3 Impala, one wildebeest, one common reedbuck, one eland, and life size mounts of klipspringer, common duiker, steinbuck, porcupine, honey badger, genet, and civet.

How do you guys feel about these quotes. Should I look into any other companies.

I also have a crate of dip and pack with another taxidermist so I emailed this shipper and asked if that crate could be shipped with the finished stuff crate. Thinking this way I don't have to pay for a broker twice. Anyone ever do this?

I haven't done sea freight, so take what I say with a grain of salt. But I have avoided sea freight due to hearing people saying they had it end up costing them just as much or more than air after dock fees because it was held so much longer.

That’s real close to my crate size last summer and price is close too. Now you’ve got the clearing agent costs and delivery left to be known.
I’m very much considering pictures only next time. Safari’s aren’t cheap and taxidermy and shipping often doubles the cost or worse. Besides I’m running out of places to put things. I think I’m gonna apply those savings to future safaris,…another win.

As someone who is also quickly running out of space, and also really likes Euro mounts, that is likely to be my compromise in the future. I will most likely do almost all euros and flat skins for the vast majority of animals in the future.

I did dip and pack for many animals and did not feel like the cost to get them back was "outrageous". Although, even that amount would likely pay for a good number more animals on a trip. I still enjoy bringing something home though.

I did a few skulls this last trip and I still have a couple of species it would be hard not to mount if I take great examples. Everyone who goes ought to have a good collection around them at home but I’m going to be much more conservative going forward.

looks like you still have clearance fees here and brokerage fees here also also could be some storage fees

They look pretty good, actually look real good compared to some quotes I’ve seen..
Did I miss the dimensions? That’s definitely a heavy crate!

That doesn't seem too bad, without double checking. After my ocean freight experience, I would do air. Those crocks at the docks added $2000 just because they could. Which when I complained was the basic answer I got. Then wanted over $4000 inland freight.... which fortunately I called a neighborhood trucker who brought it as a partial load for $2000.

Mine was a lot bigger and heavier so take my comments as worth what they cost you;) But the smaller the crate the more likely you will be better off with air freight.

I think for ocean to really be a worthwhile option you may want to fill an actual Ocean container. Even if a small one.

About 5 guys hunting together we met in a camp last year were planning to do just that.

It seems crazy, that, in 2007, we had 14 shoulder mounts and 2 rugs mounted in South Africa and shipped to Atlanta for $3,600 total.

I even had a silly zebra hoof lamp made and included in the price!

The good ol’ days!
I think my first dip&pack ran around $1200 from Mozambique - South Africa - Atlanta- Chicago to the wildlife gallery in Michigan

Not sure of your costs as I am Canadian and only did D&P, but African Legacy Logistics was the company that's I used for my 2024 import. Outstanding performance, they did have best price at the time, communication was outstanding and easy to work with. My report is on here somewhere.

Based on the crate I just got, it seems about right. It's in the ballpark at least. I'm not sure I could deal with sea freight though. There's more opportunity for something to go wrong the longer it is in transit.

Going forward, I think I'll be more selective about what gets mounted. Leopard, yes. Another kudu? Only if it's enormous.

All things considered, that doesn't seem too bad for the crate with all the mounts.

As others have said, not sure I'd do sea freight based on a few horror stories around here
