Just a few days ago, one of our members had tickets on Qatar Air to a hunting destination in Africa. After he had bought his tickets (going through Heathrow) he found out he couldn't carry his gun because Qatar had not updated their contract with who ever moves guns at Heathrow. So last I read it appeared he would have use his outfitter's rifles.

Just to close the loop on Frankfurt, we are here now. Flight attendant checked for us on the way over and said it was fine to leave the airport as our guns were already checked through to Joberg. Ultimately, we decided not to leave as the airport is dead and they have "Leisure Lounges" scattered throughout the airport that anyone can use for free. They have recliner chairs where you can put your feet up and free wifi connection. A pretty good option if you have just a few hours between flights and don't feel the need to spring for a hotel room.

Frankfurt is one of my absolute favorite airports (not that I like airports, but I do have to spend quite a lot of time at airports...)
