Brand new rifle. Never been shot. Bergara ridge wilderness.

I am guessing something needs polishing?

this is after cycling all 3 about 10 times.

Dumb question on my part but did you clean it really good before you started shooting?

Haven’t shot it yet. Just cycling the rounds trying to gain a feel for the bolt and such. Plan on shooting this weekend to sight it in. I have not cleaned it yet though.

Looks like they missed polishing the chamber. Some sort of small burr in there....
Bruce

Either a rough chamber or a dirty chamber maybe a little bit of both try a really good cleaning

Try pushing a cotton ball through the chamber, maybe the burr will snag some of the loose cotton and you'll know where it is at. My only experience with Bergara is that we had to throw a 35 Whelen barrel away that had less than 150 rounds through it. Bergara has seen the last of my money.

Front edge of the ramp looks like it has a sharp, flat topped ridge on it (circled on the pic). That could ver well be the issue. If that is, as it appears to be- easy fix.

I would send these pics to the manufacturer and ask them if they consider this acceptable. And inform them that if they do, I will post pics and their reply on every firearms forum I can find.
It galls me when companies sell absolute dreck for large dollars.

Also jams half the time when I try to cycle through the three bullets. Jams more when rifle is flat.

That’s pretty rough. I agree with @Shootist43 , clean it well, then push a cotton ball or drag a q tip across and see if it snags any fibers. If so take pictures of that as well. Then send all those photos to Bergara and ask for input. I would say that level of roughness is unacceptable in anything other than a stamped AK-type of weapon (even then I wouldn’t really expect this lol). Not only is it scratching the brass, but you can actually see the brass shavings at the top of the feed ramp.

Definitely include that in your email to Bergara. Maybe a very short video showing it, but definitely a good written description of how it is jamming.

They want me to send it back however It isn’t worth me doing that as the bases are bedded and scope is on and all.
anyone want to buy it? Lol
Seekings rail. Seekings rings. Razor hd lht scope.

I’m not real knowledgeable on a lot of gunsmithing-type stuff. What do you mean the bases are bedded, and more specifically, why does that make it not worth having them inspect the rifle?

I bedded the rail base. Took me a few days. Then I put the scope on and lined it up perfectly and tightened down using loktite. I am not doing all that again on this same gun. Will just take it to a local gun smith. 1000 dollar rifle shouldn’t have this issue. My $400 rifles don’t.

How bad of an idea would it be if I used 220 grit sandpaper to round off the ridge where the brass residue is collecting?

We’ll, I’m not a gunsmith, but I feel like I have a good grasp of these types of projects. More importantly, I have a healthy respect for them and the damage that could be done.

If it were me, I’d start quite a bit higher in grit and only go with rougher grit if a good amount of elbow grease wasn’t working.

Then again, it seems like a perfectly easy job for a gunsmith and then I wouldn’t worry about paying more in the end for the gunsmith to fix

My .02, remove scope, rings, and bases and send it back. Regardless of price, totally unacceptable.

I am really surprised, I have bad super good luck with their rifles. I would call them for sure, no reason for that to be happening.
