I have a 458 Lott ruger #1. Anyone familiar with this setup knows it kicks like a mule! I bought it with a Leupold 1.5-5 VX3 on it. So far so good, although I think it's only a matter of time before she gives up the ghost.

If you were to rescope this rig what would you recommend for a robust scope? TIA

I checked one out yesterday. The first focal plane feature was not conducive to picking up the reticle at all at lower powers. I could barely make it out at all. Second focal plane would be awesome!

S&B 1-8x24 Exos and Trijicon AccuPoint 1-6x24.

Both are SFP and tough as nails, although it's at the expense of being a little heavier than other scopes in this range.

Mother of GOD! Look at the price of that S&B! The trij is much more doable.

I assume no 1" scopes qualify in this scenario?

That's what the illumination is for. On 1x it's essentially a red dot.

For SFP, I'd get a trijicon.

Thank you sir.... I will mull it over.... which means I will start saving up. LOL

Yes sir. I have the Exos on 4-5 rifles from .416 and up. I have tried most (never Trijicon), and prefer the Exos.

I'm not saying that you can't hunt DG on a budget, but it seems to me that you've already bought once and are now crying because you have to buy again.

I had a chief in the Navy who would say, "You will always have a second chance to do it right". I would add "Except in the case of DG" in this particular case.

The S&b doesn’t have the eye relief for me. I have a no1 in 470 and recoil is quite high. The Trijicon just makes it on one power. The 458 Lott is going to move even more. All these scopes are fine on the 375 but not for me on the bigger stuff.

If you have concerns about scope cut, you can always consider an RDO. I mean for 458LOTT distances, you shouldn't need much more.

What ya gonna shoot with that thing? I have a 458 Lott that is used for elephants only. As long as I’m able to hunt elephant, it will sport iron sights. I carry a scope for it on my trips in case it becomes my smaller rifle by some chance of fate. I do hear that the No.1 is prone to kicking the snot out of you though. I guess what I’m saying is…………..

Oh Hell, I don’t know. I’m Just rambling.

So far it is a bench gun/ a fun gun. Again the Leupy is working ok so far but I am guessing it is only a matter of time at least based on my experience. Call it a preemptive strike.
