With a heavy and sad heart that I announce to you the passing of our four legged family member Savannah. She was a faithful companion, a family member and a great hunter. We will miss dearly, but we know that she is running in the green fields of puppy heaven without any pain and suffering. Cancer and severe arthritis on her hips & back took a toll on her, and the quality of life was not there any more. I owed it to her to take care of her even if it broke my heart. We will miss her dearly, get the birds Savannah, get the birds.

I love dogs in general, but Labs hold a special place in my heart. It's the right thing to do when they're in that bad a shape, still sucks to have to do it.

RIP Savannah. So sorry for your loss.

So sorry to here this. But you did the right thing. Quality of life is critical.
My GSP will be 13 this year which is the average age of a GSP. So far his arthritis is not causing too much pain by using Truprofen. He’s almost totally deaf. Only seems to hear thunder. Still a hunting machine! I love it!
I am dreading the day I have to put him down. Sorry you had to go through this.

RIP, indeed.

I’m sorry for the loss of Savannah. I know exactly what you are going through.
Time will ease the pain, but those beautiful memories will remain. Dogs give us so much and ask for so little in return, and of all the breeds Labs are my favorite.
And as I’ve said before, Dogs are better people than most people are.
My thoughts are with you my friend.

Condolences, a tough deed to do indeed!

She looks like a sweet, beautiful dog. I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure that she lived a full and happy life filled with love.

My condolences. May your happy memories softer the sadness of your loss, and knowing Savannah is not suffering but waiting. God bless.

This brings out tears to all doglovers...and especially owners of gundogs..my condolences..

youll hunt with her again.

It really is amazing how reading this is so painful. I am sorry you had to walk that very noble and selfless journey with Savannah. It's such a painful part of the responsibility we have for our beloved companion. But, I am glad you have such good memories to treasure.

@PARA45 my condolences. I know exactly what you're going through. Just yesterday we had to say goodbye to our terrier mix Eddie. He was also was losing function in his hind legs and was in a lot of pain. We had the vet come to our house and he passed away in our arms as we cried like babies. Even though I know it was what was best for him, I still feel like I let him down and the tears won't stop.
Maybe he just met Savanna and they are running and playing on legs that don't hurt anymore.

Thank you gents, it's never easy, but we do owe it to them to do the right thing. Her memories will live in our hearts until the day we meet again. Again, thank you for your kind words.

Great picture of your lab. I’m sure you will look at it and have fond memories of hunting with her.

Sorry @PARA45, been a year since I lost my old friend. Just can't bring myself to get another yet.

So sorry to hear, it is always so painful to loose one so close. We just lost our dog of 15 years in December so I know how hard it is. Feeling the same as @JES Adventures.

Sorry to hear that, I know exactly how you feel, went through the same pain four times.

Sorry for the loss of your pup. Too often people feel the need to hold back the grief of losing a four legged family member. Its important to grieve their loss as you would any family member. I'm sure the unconditional love she gave you lives on in memories.

Very sad and condolences. I personally know the feeling.
