I am selling my Savage 22HP with extra 410 barrel. I am selling it because my interest is more in European guns.
SAVAGE 1899H Takedown Rifle with 20” barrel in Caliber 22 Savage High Power (aka 22 IMP and in Europe as the 5.6x52R) with extra 410 Barrel, Serial Number 143551. This rifle was manufactured in 1913.
This is an outstanding takedown variation of the Model 1899 Savage rifle chambered for the .22 Savage High Power cartridge and manufactured in its second year of cartridge introduction. The 22 high power with its 70 grain, 0.228” caliber bullet going at an astounding velocity of 2800 FPS was the brainchild of Charles Newton. The Savage 1899 in .22 HP became an instant success and was used extensively by big game hunters and explorers like Roy Chapman Anderson, Rev. H. R. Caldwell, and WDM Bell for big game including tigers, cape buffalo and other big game. The cartridge is still loaded in Europe as the 5.6x52R.
High polish blue finish with case colored lever, two piece varnished American walnut stocks with Savage hard rubber butt plate. Barrel is fitted with Sheard pattern blade front sight, a Savage No 12 two blade express sight, and a Savage No 17 W&E adjustable tang sight. The action is not molested by drilling and tapping.
Barrel is marked "SAVAGE HIGH PRESSURE STEEL-MODEL 1899-" Chamber marked "22 H.P." Serial numbers found on belly of frame forward of lever as well as rear of forearm assembly. Rifle bore is excellent with sharp rifling and bright lands and grooves. Shotgun barrel is not marked and has an excellent bore.
The action operates smoothly and locks up solidly. The factory varnished stocks remain very fine with most all finish remaining and without chips or material loss. The barrel retains over 95% bright blue finish with minor finish wear at muzzle. The frame retains most all of its lustrous high polish blue with the expected light edge wear at belly from carry and handling. This is really an exceptional Savage 1899 in the very desired .22 High Power cartridge.
Price is $1,950. Refund if not as shown is available within 3 days of shipping provided rifle has not ben shot or disassembled.
