Sandgrouse, guine fowl and francolin and springbok culling. Could it be done at the same concession and when?

These guys do a lot of bird hunting, Likhulu Safaris. I thought they were a sponsor here once, but they may have dropped off that list.

Check out burchell-wolf safaris in Namibia.
Also beast and bird in South Africa has been on my radar.
Mark Haldane might still have some offers available as well.
Worth a look at least.

Hi Sir yes it can be done we have a very good area to do a cull hunt as well as wingshooting combined the time of year is the only thing to keep in mind, as for wingshooting it is better to do it during harvesting time of crops as this attracts vast amounts of birds and gives ample opportunity to harvest a wide variety of birds.

Hello Nejatuner
We have a lot of sandgrouse in the Kalahari.
It is a very special bird to hunt and reserved for the true connoiseur.
The daily limit is 5 sandgrouse per person per day.
We have two types of sandgrouse in our area - Burchells sandgrouse (more common) and also Namaqua sandgrouse.
They come into waterholes every morning between 9 and 11 am so a group of hunters just circle a waterhole and stand next to a small tree or bush (about 50 to 80 yards from the water) and the birds will fly overhead to and from the water.
The hunting season for them are as follow :
Namaqua sandgrouse (not so common in our area) - April 1 till July 15
Burchell's sandgrouse - November 1 till April 31.
So in April the two seasons overlap.
The Namaqua sandgrouse is a faster bird and flies up bit higher so you got to lead it more.

Regarding francolin we have small pockets of them all over the area.
The group size vary between 10 and 20 birds in a group.
Guinea fowl run sometimes in bigger groups of up to 50 to 80 birds in a group.
Hunters will spot them from the vehicle then circle around the thicket that they went into and slowly close up the circle till their nerves cannot hold it any longer and they fly up and over the circle.

There are other areas in South Africa that grow crops where you can hunt big numbers of guinea fowl over cultivated fields but with us it is just wilderness here and no cultivated fields around.
So you can expect only about 5 to 10 birds per hunter per day.

The daily bag limits for the birds in our area are as follow :
Red billed spurfowl (francolin) - 3
Swainson's spurfowl (francolin) - 5
Guinea fowl - 10
Sandgrouse (all kinds) - 5

We also have doves that come into the water in the late afternoons (evenings) just before sunset.
There is no limit on doves and you can expect to shoot about 20 per person per day.

Regarding springbuck culling.
See below our price list (attached) that list the daily rates as well as different species available for culling (including springbuck).

So to answer your question.
Yes all the species you mentioned can be done in one location.
A good time to come will be from April till August.

I hope that I have answered what you wanted to know.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
