Safari Vehicles in America

Reminds me of first Safari in 2015, way up on the Limpopo, you could look across the dry at the time river and see Zimbabwe and Botswana, that Safari vehicle had to be a '60's production Land Cruiser beautiful dark green beast, went out early one morning before breakfast to throw some things on the truck, they had the hood up giving it a check out for the day, that giant inline 6 cylinder diesel engine looked 4 feet long, my head started spinning on a way to try and buy it, and bring it home.

About the same thought process I had when I slide off the back of a beautiful black and white paint filly after the 31 mile ride out hunting elk in The Thorofare, her name was Denise, I loved her, she would bend her body in the middle to keep from raking your knees on trees and would not walk under low hanging limbs, Guide said I can load her up on that trailer and you can haul 'em both off for 12, I said you ain't talking hundred are you? NOPE!!!!! :p

The closest thing I have to these cool old Land Cruisers is a 1952 Dodge B3PW, it's a one ton Dodge Power Wagon, green and black, built it near 15 years ago for Gramps, he used to run em in Korea after he finished up with WWII and before 'Nam, got it out to the family deer camp when he was around 87 years old, buried him in the winter of '13 at 93 years old.

The old flathead gas burner six is very weak, I milled the head .080" to bump compression, put a late grind on the cam, converted over to 12V electronic ignition with a one wire alternator, found an old Offenhauser two 2BBL intake and a split header, installed Lok-Right lockers in front and rear, went 1100-16 Michelin radials on the factory split rim 16" steel wheels, iirc put 489 gears for a little better road speed with less RPM's, the damn thing may now go 46 MPH LOL.

The MU-2 Braden PTO winch comes off a transfer case with 191 to 1 gear reduction, something is going to give as long as the engine is idling, cool old War Horse, but, could have still made some damn good memories with Gramps in the fall seasons of his life in that big African Safari Land Cruiser.

'saw unimogs being used by at least one RSA firm in the Kalahari. Neighbor used to have an old Dodge Power wagon 6x6 (he used it to haul firewood up/down steep slopes as well as sand/gravel/cement up/down the same hills from a distant quarry in the valley and it was a BEAST!)

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
