Safari Vehicles in America

The 4Runners are most definitely a hot commodity right now given the impending doom from the changes. Actually all the Toyotas are I guess.
You are correct and good score on the TRD 4 Runner, you’ve got a vehicle that will last forever…. Just follow the factory recommended service schedule for fluids and filters with synthetic oil.

Buddy of mine just spent $34K on a 2023 Tacoma V6 with 30k miles on it and glad to get it

I’m currently looking for a 2021 Tundra - last year with the 5.7ltr V8.

Well, it’s been a long time coming, but this rig is finally rolling back home this week.

I’m currently building cattle rails for my Tundra bed or as we call them “tralies” in South Africa. We have some on our Hilux and I love the look especially on a LC as the photo below shows.

Some pictures of our stock Land Cruiser 200 and a video of a little what a stock Land Cruiser CAN do in the hands of an expert (or maniac) LOL. Again, WAY beyond my comfort level. I guess if it's a matter of life or death it's nice to know I might get out of a jam. These things are tanks, used in militaries and demanding situations all over the world.

Our mods to the truck are mostly electrical: a 390 Amp alternator to power all kinds of things inside the cabin and a 100A connector at the rear of the truck to charge the travel trailer while under tow.
Ready for trips, all off-grid, but not necessarily terribly off-road:

Some of what a "stock" Land Cruiser CAN do. I hang out in a forum called ih8mud.com which is dedicated to off-roading and has a lot of threads of modding Land Cruisers and other vehicles. What's POSSIBLE with a Land Cruiser with lifted and upgraded suspension is unbelievable.
Stock Land Cruiser. It's a modest course even for a stock vehicle:

Toyotas are the very worst mileage of any car in their class. I think the FJs get around 15mpg in city, 19mpg in highway best case. Same for Tundra and Tacoma and 4runner.

But the tradeoff is worth it. If you buy a Chrysler product with MDS, or a GM product with AFM, your engine could blow at any moment between 1 mile and 70,000 miles. So yes the mileage is better, but the active fuel management destroys engines.

I just sold a 2016 4runner with 120k for 2/3rds of what I paid for it new. And I feel like an absolute idiot for doing it.

When my father passed away a couple years, he had a 2018 Tundra with 36k on it. I was going to sell it, I have way too many vehicles as it is, but my buddy who owns a couple mechanic shops told me that was the last year of the best V8 built in a generation. The gas milage is just horrible, but that I really don't care.

I have a 2007 Lexus gx470. Land cruiser Prado for everyone else outside of the US. It's a great overlander vehicle. Mines down with a steering issue at the moment. But I've had and been working on this project for several years. The upgrade parts here in the US are not as common and very expensive. But piece by piece it's getting there

In America, we now have the Prado masquerading as a Land Cruiser even though it is not. I looked at them carefully and they suck: v4 turbo hybrid. However, we also have the Lexus gx550 which is exactly the same vehicle, but with a trusty v6, leather interior, and all the creature comforts. $58k versus $70k. The engine and interior alone justify the price difference.

Sixty nine Landcruiser frame up restoration.
Going to look fabulous in that color. Did you retain the three-speed?

Mmm...not sure bout that..prado is the version down from the lexus 470 which was the upmarket version of the "ordinary" land cruiser.....could be confused due to different modelling in countries....but no prado I know ever came with a v8

I seem to come across them in the oddest places…..

Parked outside the Sushi restaurant in Stillwater Oklahoma, Right side drive Queensland plate and all.

Wow, FJ forty five???

I've had this thing everywhere from outside of London where I bought it, to Stuttgart, through the Black Forest, on to Poland, then back on the Dunkirk ferry to do a UK trip, up through Lockerbie, up to Thurso, then ferry, then Orkney, ferry again to the Shetlands, around the Shetlands, ferry back to Orkney and on to Skye, then through the Lake District and Cotswolds, the Isle of Wight, Southampton, ship to Baltimore, cruise about the east coast, up to Brooklin Maine, then west to the gorgeous panhandle of Idaho.

So make fun of Land Rovers all you want. We can't hear you.
Yeesh.

After all those highway miles in a Defender 90 I'm not surprised you can't hear me...

I did. Three on the tree, guaranteed theft proof! Working on a kydex gun mount for an AR to go in behind the drivers seat. I’ve got my friend who works at Crane coming up with some ideas.

Currently doing a load development on a .404 Jeffrey... it's always surprising to load .423 caliber bullets into a .404 caliber rifle. But we love it when we get 400 Gr North Fork SS bullets to 2300 FPS, those should hammer down on buffalo. Next up are the Cutting Edge solids and then Raptors... load 200 rounds of ammo for the customer and on to the next gun!
To much to political shit, to little Africa :-)
Spending a few years hunting out west then back to Africa!

Hello. If you haven't already sold this rifle then I will purchase. Please advise. Thank you.

I doubt you are interested in any trades but I was getting ready to list a Sauer 404 3 barrel set in the 10-12 price range if your interested. It has the 404J, 30-06 and 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. Only the 30-06 had been shot and it has 7 rounds through it as I was working on breaking the barrel in. It also has both the synthetic thumbhole stock and somewhere between grade 3-5 non thumbhole stock
