Sable Taxidermy Pictures

As a taxidermist I try to discourage straight poses as a little turn either way makes them look more alive.
What about a wall pedestal? What is your opinion on that?

Wall peds can be done anyway , best wall pedestal is one that comes out of the wall on a 45 degree shoulder then turns 90 degrees as if its looking back over it's shoulder to clear the horns on the wall and give it the wow affect..Custom, they don't make forms like that. I just chop em up re design and make you one.

Giz if you want a lifesize you'll need a couple lions not just one....

I also think a wall ped looks more artistic and gives a certain amount of grace to the mount over a standard shoulder mount.

Pedestal mount for me, I will be using zebra for the panels

Mine is being done now in a Pedestal mount. I am building the pedestal myself and haven't decided on Walnut, Mahogany, or possibly zebra wood or a combo of woods.
Also having the backskin done, not sure what it will be used for yet but will come up with something.

I would really like to do something like that gemsbok with a zebra. How much does that metal frame cost? I need to find a welder.

The metal frame had less than $100 in materials. I mail ordered them from Kings Architectural in Dallas. It would be pretty easy for a welder to duplicate. Feel free to copy my design.

Because the final assembly is so heavy I hung it on the wall with a "French Cleat" that was screwed to the studs. I am sure that you can google French cleat to see how it works.

Discap, nice design, the only thing I will change will be making the mount attach thru the pin on the back shoulder and not have that ped type base on the bottom. And I like a triple rod twist with the rod steel. The supports thru the frame side to side could easily be aligned to fall in the permitters you'd need for the safe and secure support of the pin for the mount. I like it. Will be making one. I like it.

They look great on pedestal mounts. But if you have the space ill do a full mount

Dennis yours will look good. I wound up with this for a couple of reasons. First I simply told the taxidermist in Namibia to make a pedestal mount, so this is what I got. Second I liked the little "Africa" cutouts that support he mount.

How to mount a sable?? Very carefully!:eek:

I do hope to add this trophy someday. I think a pedestal is the way to go!

Nice mount. Shoulders aren't big enough for me, But that is simply my opinion based on the anatomy.
Don't think it's a sable form just a gemsbok with a change out head for the sable. See the above mounted Gemsbok vs the depth of the sable another picture above that one. Sable have very large shoulder and deep briskets. Very Nice Second growth near the bases for mass, But I would like to see much more mass in this pose. Sable are very front heavy , but that is just an opinion of my observations of sable anatomy. I agree that Sable Pedestals are the way to go, but this is truly different and unique.
