Leupold 2-7×33. I had it laying around, so decided to try it out on the 416.Very nice. What scope is on it?
I bought 100 pieces of Hornady brass a few weeks ago off of Gunbroker. Someone usually has it there if it's anywhere to be found. On a positive note for me. I found some new 416 Ruger brass (doubletap could not find any) and shipped it to doubletap. I hopefully will finally have a box of 300 gr TSX to test out.
I like that. I have ordered the Alaskan Arms QR rings but I have not settled on a scope yet. I almost want to carry two scopes. For elk (hence the 300 gr TSX) I have a Leupold VX-II 4-12x40mm that I really like. But I also want a 1.5 ish x 6/7 ish I could pop on in close stuff.Leupold 2-7×33. I have got to start loading myself. After I get through this spring bear hunt and the fall elk trip I will turn my attentions and money to setting up a well equipped bench. Researching the project has put my attention to other calibers that might be best suited for those that load their own. The failed/defunct 300 and 338 RCM come to mind. You can get both guns cheap. As understand it however these cartridges were loaded with proprietary powder. So I am still unclear what RCM reloads would equate too. 30-06 short round? 338 non-magnum?I bought 100 pieces of Hornady brass a few weeks ago off of Gunbroker. Toby I was going to order a HS Stock for my Ruger Alaskan. But I noticed the pictures and product codes for HS Precision and for Stocky's are slightly different. Did you order from Stocky's or HS? Any issues fitting with the barrel channel having enough room?
Thanks John, been meaning to join this forum for a while. Best place to discuss my love of big rifles with like minded folks.
Luke, what caliber is your Alaskan? Mine is 416 Ruger.Ruger Alaskan
Good deal. I have had mine for more than a month and have yet to shoot it. It has been a journey finding ammo and I am still waiting on a delivery. I certainly am going to have to start reloading.killed a caribou
Good News!!!
A brown truck brought my 416 Ruger 300 gr Barnes TSX ammo. I finally got to shoot my gun and what a blast. I was really afraid of nothing. The recoil was not bad at all. Having said that, I have not shot from a bench yet. I shot three rounds standing from 35 yards. The iron sights are about six inches low. It is supposed to be dead on at 50 yards out of the box. I assume that would be with 400 gr Hornady rounds though. I picked up a Leupold 3x9 and now just need my Alaska Arms rings and will be good to go.
Good for you! I have also just set up my .416 ruger with Alaskan arms rings and a VX3 2x8 scope. I have not shot a lot through mine yet either, only 400 grn. Where did you get your 300 grn barnes loaded? I got mine from Hendershots, good service and delivery.

With the 400 gr did find your rifle to be sighted in at 50 yards?
