I see Ruger and Lipseys decided on the .270 WCF for this years African.

I’m wrestling on whether to get one or not. I am a big .270 fan however I’m not sure I want an African in it.

Honestly I always had thought the African series to be steeped in foreign hunting heritage. .275 Rigby. Then 9.3x62 and 6.5x55 Swede.

Then I had zero interest in the .280 AI. A good round but no real heritage. .35 when likewise was a great round but it deserves to be in a Remington 700 or a sporterized Springfield.

I had honestly been hoping to see 7x64 or 9.3x64 come up in the rotation. I wish I hadn’t passed on a custom 9.3x64 African I had seen.

Just figured I’d start a thread since they’re starting to show up.

I just picked one up today. I handled the 35 Whelen and the 270. I’ve always had an affinity for the 270 Win (I have an older Sako) and I’ve really thought about getting a 35W.

I was conflicted and pondered for about 30 minutes. Then, she shop owner apologized and told me the 35W box had gotten wet and was essentially destroyed. The gun hadn’t been wet.

I considered that a “sign” and went for the 270 with no regrets…I may get a 35W in the future anyway

I’ll get it set up and ready to shoot in a week or so (currently out of state on business) and give a report.

I’ve ordered some QD from Alaska Arms LLC. I saw them on Spomer’s YouTube channel. I called and talked to Morris regarding fit; he was a very nice guy and hooked me up. https://alaskaarmsllc.com/
I'm looking forward to a report on your rifle as well at the Alaska Arms QD Ruger rings.
I like Ruger rings and they detach (and reattach) easily if you have a tool - but I would never reattach and hunt without rechecking the zero.

I received them a couple of days ago. Alaska Arms packages them like you’re getting a diamond ring :) They come in a felt pouch inside a “tin”. Also in the tin are instructions and hex wrenches. Of course, I use my own wrenches, but it is nice that he includes them.

The craftsmanship is outstanding and the tolerances are tight; it is obvious they are not from a mass production factory.

I am bedding the 270, but I put them on a different Hawkeye for a dress rehearsal. They fit and performed perfectly.

I couldn’t be happier and look forward to putting them on the 270 when it is ready.

Hello,

I saw your post selling left hand rifles. Do you have any additional pics of the .416 Rem mag?

Thank you.
