Rudolph Quad Shooting Sticks

In almost 40 years of living and hunting in Africa I never used shooting sticks. Shot off-hand or used natural rests like stems, anthills, knees etc. Only hunted in forests and bushveld, so the distance was always quite short, around 50 to 75 metres, seldom 100 metres +. Off course hunting in the Kalahari and other wide open places would have been a different story, for that shooting sticks are a must.

Anyone ever used these? I just ordered a set, and they look very promising for steady field shooting. If they work out, I plan to use them in Africa. What do ya think @johanvw ?

Used them in Namibia on our hunt.
Mate they are fantastic, just like having a bench rest in the bush. Best idea since sliced bread.

I notice the bush stick in the link above is under 600g and I read Viper Flex is 1050gm.
I used Viper Flex in South Africa I found Mjoelner quad sticks on EBay but can’t see a weight.
All similar design but I hope Viper Flex are better quality for the weight and expense.
I could see the Viper Flex are well made and it’s hard to guage the quality of material, the tubes would need to be a quality aluminium allow to be lightweight with some element to make it hard or stiff.
They can be slower to position and restrict lateral movement but they are very steady.
Having that rear support steadies the vertical plane where other cannot. I have little experience on sticks but I shot well off the quad design.

Chris we used viper sticks in Namibia mate quick, easy, light and allows for plenty of lateral and vertical movement. If they weren't so expensive I'd have a set in a heartbeat.

I have seen the Viper-flex on a couple of TV hunting shows (Hunting the Wild and Buffalo Fever) and looks to be a very stable.
I have not seen the Spartan tripod or bipod in use but looks extremely stable and of course they have special Blaser mount.

I used an African Shooting Sticks which I purchase as they were a Grey's Journal Best Buy. The SAAM folks recommend using a small bi-pod with them and to hold one leg of each together for stability. The SAAM folks had Bog Pods, if that tells you anything.

I’d have to bring my engineer along or it looks like I would get all tangled up trying to deploy those bad boys! Lol. I recommend you bring them out to Houston and we field test them followed by a critique over some whisky! Bet by the time we drink up a plan they will be modified beyond use!

I don’t see any mention of them here, but 4 stable sticks made in France are a really great product. They have a couple models but I think the most basic and heaviest is the best called bush stick. I have mountain stick also but don’t think it’s as durable. With a little practice you can get really quick at shooting from them and setting them up and you can really easily carry with one hand. About $110 for one pair and $60 shipping from France.

Used something similar to quad sticks on my last hunt in Africa. They are stable but have very limited lateral motion, something like an inch or so. You have to set them up just about perfect or move the entire rig laterally. I use Bogpods tripods and find them much more versatile and about as steady with a little practice.

Do not do it!!! I ordered a similar pair and practiced for 6 months and was awesome with them. The problem for me in Africa was hilly country versus flat. These will not swivel left to right which is a deal breaker. I had to switch over to my PHs three leg swivel sticks.

I’m not sure what sticks you were using? But I’ve taken my 4 stable sticks to Europe twice , 5 trips to Africa and am always impressed by them. The front is about 3 inches of flat not a V so I can move the rifle left and right quote easy. I practice during summers at home on ground hogs and have gotten really fast. The ability to always put a good shot out weighs the downside of being a second slower if something unexpectedly comes out.

Tried those in Namibia two years ago.....tried them once....was looking for a cliff to throw them off of after one experience....hope this tells you my personal opinion.

I'm 71, with bad shoulders and have trouble holding steady without a solid rest..Looking for something that really helps..Used Bog Pod last trip and got by but too easy for me to wobble in them..Thanks everyone for a great thread.

Viperflex sticks are really the dogs danglers. I’m just looking at some of my shots this week on some land with a lot of gorse cover. Hell to shoot over.
But a set of sticks gives me a few feet extra height wise.
Rifle, 7x57 with 175gr. Nosler partitions. 2 sika hinds on last Sunday evening, 186 and 135 yds respectively. Wednesday,1 sika Hind at 143 yds, this afternoon 1 sika hind @189 yds. I may have made a slight hash of map ruler ! Not too familiar with it, still getting to grips with it
