I have a Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby, and the recoil pad is hard as a rock. I was wondering if I replace the recoil pad if the rifle will lose any (if any) value among the Ruger fans? Not that I'm going to sell the rifle any time soon, but just in case one day I decide to part with this rifle. I'm thinking going with a NEGG or Kick Eez red pads Your thoughts. Thank you!

That’s what I did. Keep the original

The RSM has recently been getting a long overdue increase in market appreciation and resale value. I don’t foresee them becoming a collector item with a premium on originality similar to a pre 64 model 70 in my lifetime. The original recoil pad was not that great, even when new. Leave the wood as-is and I think you’ll be fine.

Ruger fans? What the hell??

I just installed an NECG pad on my Ruger #1 and found it is much easier to finish out than the Pachmayr Decelerator pads I have on other rifles, if you are a DIY’er. Thinking the compound must be different.

Keep the original pad, put on whatever you want and if you sell it the potential buyer can have the choice of either.
All my Winchesters red rubber either go in the safe or stay on the rifle depending on caliber

Have you considered one of the slip on leather that incorporates more padding. I went that way on ruger African 35 whelen. I just got it and haven’t shot it yet but needed more length for proper trigger finger placement. Found on Amazon tourbon leather rifle pad. ($38)
If you like I can probably post pic tomorrow. Good luck however you decide to go. If and when you sale just remove.

Assuming you don't cut the stock you can just put the awful factory pad back on to make it original again. I don't have an RSM, but both my African and Alaskan have 1" Decelerator pads on them, both to improve on the factory hockey puck pads and to add a bit to the LOP. If I want to punish myself or the next owner, I can just unscrew the new pad and reinstall the factory one.

Thank you gents for the your valuable inputs. (y)

Save the old one and put it back on when you sell it.

Just wanted to say thanks for the excellent customer service. Ordered some 9.3x62 brass and the delivery was a little short. An email through your website Contact Us link was replied to the next day with the tracking info for the correction. Good pricing coupled with great customer service will see returning customers every time. Thanks again!

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA
