RSA vote count underway

ANC 40,27%, 99% of the votes counted.
Ouch. That's much worse than projected. At last count there were more than fifty political parties in South Africa. I guess the ANC will just put power up for cash bid to a group of them to create a coalition government. Here in Canada coalition governments actually sort of work better. But we really never have more than three contending parties at one time (typically no more than five that are remotely of substance). Generally, coalition governments with such a small majority don't last long, often only weeks. ANC must know they can't buy off a whole bunch of political parties and expect to stay in power long. A vote of no confidence would be much easier to put together. It is the gun to the ANC head. With a whole bunch of parties holding the trigger anything can happen anytime. And it will happen. Then another election, then immediately afterwards another, etc until some "strong man" steps in to assert some semblance of order to the confusion. We know how that usually turns out.

Corruption in South Africa is already to the point where nothing is getting done and no one who does do anything is getting paid (e.g. cops stopping safari vehicles on the highway and demanding bribes). But with a coalition government, corruption is now about to reach unprecedented heights. I fear for my friends over there. Really I do. But most of all I fear for the very special natural environment that is South Africa.

You got the right! Been there lived it, the crooks just loose their turn. The slide to total collaps speeds up and slows down every so often but the direction stays the same....down hill

can’t see where any of this was said seems like your unsolicited opinion was necessary. Maybe don’t stir up trouble where it’s not found eh
Well I posted a question regarding the integrity of foreign election results in South Africa.

I’ve spent nearly ten years on this forum and know there are more than a few members who would love to bring up 2020 results and detail the thread.

Anyway, I hope the ANC doesn’t pull some tricks, and a coalition is formed that will actually help the country and its citizens.

I have been here longer than you… stow it. I am not interested in your self proclaimed morally superior opinion. No one said anything but you.

I agree. As bad as things were/are, it can, and I'm afraid will, get worse. Things were confused but I don't see any promise that any of the contenders becoming involved in a coalition will do anything but add more instability. Fortunately, the military and police are such a joke I don't see how they can be much of a factor. Personally, I think the ANC made sure both became ineffectual to protect against any threat of a coup.

Really?!; Seriously?!. Oh How Naive. All it takes is one well placed fatal "proficient use" of a "weapon" to the right person (people) to initiate a coup. .......or a rebellion. .......or create total national chaos.

Right Person means: Politician(s), or more appropriately Financial backer(s) / "influencer(s)" of a (or multiple) politician(s).

What opinion did I state? All I said is I didn’t want to hear about 2020 one way or another

I expected a bit of turmoil when Apartheid ended in June of 1991, but was very optimistic. At the first multiracial elections in 94 I thought the country was on a path toward unlimited prosperity. Hope was high. Now, 30 years on, I fear for my friends in RSA. At election time the gravy train slows just enough to pick up another crew. NGO's nibble at one problem or another, but IMO the root cause of the economic decline is governmental corruption. Long term investment, or even planning, are stifled by apathy or fear of instability and theft of capital. Still, there are a lot of good people there, and surprisingly, a lot of good politicians. Hopefully, it's not too late for a resurgence of what I consider one of the greatest Countries on Earth..............all the best to my RSA friends..............FWB
