Criminals do not obey any laws, so we can have all the laws in the world, and only us, the law-abiding-citizen will be affected by them.

Bottom line is if they applied for renewal in time none of this would be applicable, irrespective of how it has now turned out because they did not renew in time. Quite simple.
Yes now it is a big issue and the way it is being done is a major concern.

I renewed in time(I have 17 firearms) and am at the moment not affected by this.

Who knows what will happen in future when they change the law again.
