ROMANIA: Gizmo's Romanian Hunting Adventure

Thanks, Gizmo. I'm sure that I'll have more questions and will PM you as I think of them. Regarding tipping, I was mostly curious whether it was acceptable there. It sounds like you and Mrs. Gizmo had a great time. This could be a really good opportunity if things work out.

This was an awesome trip Gizmo! The hunt was great, but that architecture is unbelievable! Truly "Old World" quality! Just amazing! I can't imagine the cost today to build like that!

Thanks!

Great article, especially since I just wired transferred a deposit to hunt with Romania Hunting Outfitters. This is the same outfitter that is giving away a free hunt via a drawing here on AH. My wife and I have booked a combined hunt (2 roe deer and a wild boar) with sightseeing. We are very pleased at the cost, especially when you consider what you pay to hunt elsewhere. After doing some research and checking prices, we booked our tickets out of Chicago on Turkish Airlines. We will fly direct to Istanbul and then on to Bucharest. Our other option would have been KLM through Amsterdam. Both airlines allow guns & ammo in checked baggage and I plan on taking my own. Both of these airlines were substantially cheaper than Delta and some others. We will be arriving in Bucharest on April 30th and the roe deer season opens May 1. We'll be staying 9 nights leaving on May 9th. All meals, rooms, English speaking guide from the time we land until we leave, etc. included in a VERY REASONABLE price (except alcohol). Arranging the hunt was relatively easy using email but you have to keep in mind there is an 8 hour time difference. We are already counting the days and your article has helped to get us really excited about the trip. Thanks for sharing!

@gizmo Nice report, I have seen most all western Europe, Poland, and Czechoslovakia but never got the opportunity to see Romania. I can see that it should be on the bucket list.

It’s pretty awesome. I really want to hunt Poland too. That will likely be up there in the decision for the next Europe trip. I gotta get back to Africa first though.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
