RIP Gene Hackman

He was one of the few who had the ability to be equally brilliant as either the protagonist or the antagonist – he played them both very, very well.

Three of my favorite roles: Coach Jimmy McGinty, Sheriff Little Bill Daggett, and the immortal Coach Norman Dale. Hoosiers and The Replacements are two of the very best sports movies ever.

Underrated movie? Welcome to Mooseport, his final film. It was funny.

Hoosiers is in my top 10 all time faves. If the story isn't true, it ought to be. Few things better than a redemption story arc, and Hackman nailed it.
Drove past the exit for Milan early this morning, there's a highway sign for the 1954 Champs. Always think of this movie. He was an awesome actor.

“You tell him? Sectionals in ‘33. 3-2-1 let her fly. In and out. Well, I was fouled.” :-). Without Shooter running the picket fence on them, there may not have been a ‘54 championship (well, per the movie at least).

"10 feet. I think you'll find that's the exact same measurements as our gym back at Hickory."

Agreed, certainly the most likely explanation.

Hmmm, him, wife and one dog dead, but two other dogs are alive. Not sure how Carbon Monoxide kills three, but leaves two alive.

I didn’t catch that, excellent point.

And Lex Luthor in the original Superman.

There was no role this man couldn't do.

RIP :( Great actor!

When I remember him he stays in my memory as a captain of a submarine in "Crimson Tide".
RIP Gene Hackman.

Yes many weird things......

The dead dog was found in a closed closet and the other 2 were found alive "roaming the property"

Wife found on the bathroom floor with pills scattered and Gene was found on the kitchen floor, investigators said "the body was in a position that would indicate that he fell abruptly and stayed in that position; and given the condition of the bodies, both had been there for an extended period."

Many questions left to be answered but it caught me by surprise that his last public appearance as stated by the media was in 2003 when he received his lifetime achievement award.

Apparently in recent years he had become somewhat of a recluse and the last known public sighting of him with video showed a man that you wouldn't recognize.

Regardless of how his life ended the world is a better place because of his work........

Not bad for a guy who was voted least likely to succeed by his first acting school!

RIP, great actor and never really knew his politics which is so rare now and appreciated as a fan. Such a body of work, but my favorites are "The Replacements" and "Bat 21", "Uncommon Valor"

SO MANY great movies. My favourite was Uncommon Valor. I must have watched that movie 20 times. Gene Hackman, Patrick Swayze and Fred Ward all gone now. I don’t use the word icon very often, but Mr. Hackman definitely was. RIP sir. So sad.

Royal Tenenbaum was a complete knockoff of my own father! It's like watching dad on the screen - so damn funny.
Also few realize he played the blind hermit in Young Frankenstein - another perfect role.

An actor's actor for certain.

I was mentioning today that I haven't seen the French Connection in 30 years, I'm long overdue for a Hackman marathon.

Honorable mention: A late 1980s or early 1990s move "The Package" that he was great in. Of course Hoosiers is one of the best sports movies of all time.

He wasn't a preachy, political guy, just a really good actor. Hollywood needs more professionals that focus on the craft and stay clear of political ramblings.

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary
