Right scope for Ruger no.1

Leopold Vx-6 illuminated 2-12.

Bushnell elite 6500 1.25-8x32. I have had one on three different no1's. Five inches of eye relief, 30mm tube and great feild of view. Unfortunately bushnell stopped production of them but they can be found on the used market.

My PH in South Africa STRONGLY recommended Leupy (my nickname) low powered scopes. Most of the shooting on his concession is under the hundred yards, and his instruction was keep the magnification low.... Worked for just about everything except for the Warthog (going flat out at 150 yards +), and the Oryx, off a rest at 300+. In both cases, I stuffed the shot, so a follow up ensued. My excuse (mentioned elsewhere) is that I went over there without my spectacles, both reading, and distance. The Oryx I put it where I aimed, too low. My stuffups.
So, check with your PH what the ranges are likely to be, and follow he lead. Personally, I'd go with the 2.5-8X36 on PG; DG, go even lower. A VX-6 1-6) would be ideal as well, funds permitting....
