I’ve looked around some but am not sure about the compatibility of what I’ve seen.

Anyone know of a low profile RMR mount for a current production Magnum double square bridge Rigby or Mauser action?

I have the Rigby Big Game, double square bridge, in 416 Rigby. I put a Leupold 1-6x24 firedot scope on it. When you crank it down to 1 it works just like a red dot RMR, and you have the ability to crank up the scope if you need to. More versatile than just a RMR (which I have on my double on love it)

I don't recall if it is EAW or Recknagel, but NECG offered one. I was going to get one for my Rigby BG but like @chashardy said above, red dot scope is the same.

Safe shooting

@chashardy & @SFRanger7GP - The biggest difference between using a scope at 1x and a RDO is not having to worry about eye relief to get proper focus. Plus with the RDO mounted further forward, it affords better peripheral vision. An important factor when hunting DG and trying to keep everyone in the hunting party safe.

They both have pros and cons. It's just a matter of what one chooses to use.

This is the Rigby & AimPoint H2 setup. Not what I'd consider low profile. Looks to be about the same height as a scope.

Sorry but I have shot enough (and under very difficult conditions) and practice with my kit that I don't have any of the issues you seem to think make a big difference. Proper training and a timer shows that those issues are not relevant as well.

Looks to me like it's significantly higher mount than most scopes. With that flat comb European style the shooter's cheek will be WAY up off the stock to get on this sight. Look how much lower the irons are - WAY lower. The stock is designed to line the shooter's eye up quickly and accurately for those irons. I suppose with these electronic gizmos it might still be possible to aquire somewhat quicker than a scope mounted that high, but being positioned that far above the rifle is sure to increase felt recoil, especially with thumper calibers (admittedly I have no experience since I try limit my reliance on techocrap as much as possible).

In my lifetime I've only had experience shooting three charging animals: an elk, a moose, and a gemsbuck. The elk was actually at night while tracking him wounded with a flashlight. He ambushed me and I shot him incoming through the neck very close range with a 30-06 wearing an old 3x Weaver. Moose, also wounded, got up out of his bed, turned and came for me less than twenty yards. Shot him in the head with same rifle/scope. On my first safari I shot my first gemsbuck in the chest incoming on a gallop out of an acacia thicket at less than thirty yards. Then again through the heart at twelve yards as it ran by. Same rifle wearing a new 3-9x Nikon scope. Pretty sure the scope was still set at 4.5x. Mind you I shoot a lot of birds and clay targets so I'm quite familiar with moving target technique. Still, I'm not convinced the need for expanded peripheral vision isn't somewhat overrated. It is, however, absolutely imperative that gun and scope fit the shooter EXACTLY. I can take any shotgun to the trap range and shoot reasonably well making myself fit the gun (more or less) from high gun (mounted before pulling the target). But woe is me if I walk over to the skeet range and try to shoot a decent score low gun with a strange shotgun that doesn't fit me properly. In a charging animal situation the shooter will always need to get on a rapidly moving target instantly and accurately. No time to make himself work with the gun. It should already be working for him.

Hold the rifle at ready position, close both eyes, quickly mount the gun and open eyes. If the crosshairs with full field of vision, or other sight mechanism, is not instantly lined up when eyes open, adjustments must be made. I'm not sure how the above contraption could ever be adjusted enough to do that.

Will the mount for a CZ 550 work.
^ No.

^ This Aimpoint mount is for a Rigby Highland Stalker.

The mounts required for the Double Square Bridge on the Rigby Big Game (or Mauser 98 Magnum) action are different.

There are mounting options for a dot / reflex on a Rigby Big Game / modern Mauser 98 Magnum action, that mount to the front bridge.

Pretty sure they are made by Recknagel - I'd suggest contacting @JD Noblin, https://www.optics-trade.eu, NECG, or Gordys.

Not sure I agree with you. I took my 416 Rigby Big Game with the 1-6x24 Red Dot scope and my Chapuis 375 double with the Trijicon RMR on my last two African hunts. I don't see any significant difference between the scope at 1 power and the RMR on the double. Shot them both on those hunts and they worked great. I just think the original poster would find that the 1-6 scope gives him the flexibility of the scope and the quick target acquisition of the RMR in one optic on a big bore bolt rifle. BTW, I agree that I would not like the AimPoint as mounted in the photo you included. Just my two cents.

Thank you. I have used both Scopes and RDS extensively and you are spot on about the variable power being flexible.

That Aimpoint is high and I would not care for that setup either.

With a rifle like that, no one should be concerned with your shoes.

Good Afternoon,
How firm are you on your Dakota 416? I am highly interested but looking at a few different guns currently.

Best,
BJ

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
