London gunmaker John Rigby & Co. proudly announces the exclusive release of a new limited edition bronze sculpture as part of the Rigby Art collection: “Jim Corbett and the Champawat Tigress.” Created by acclaimed Montana-based artist Kasey A. Nixon, only eight of these masterful pieces are available worldwide.
This striking artwork captures the pivotal moment when Jim Corbett, the legendary hunter-turned-conservationist, faced the Champawat Tigress—responsible for an unprecedented 436 human deaths across Nepal and India, making her the most prolific man-eater in recorded history. Corbett’s pursuit of the tigress in 1907, culminating in a dramatic final encounter, not only restored safety to the region but also marked the beginning of his lifelong commitment to wildlife conservation.
The sculpture also commemorates Corbett’s receipt of the iconic .275 Rigby rifle, gifted to him by the Lieutenant Governor of the United Provinces of India in recognition of his bravery in dispatching the man-eating tigress of Champawat. This historic rifle is now held in Rigby’s permanent collection.
Artist Kasey A. Nixon commented: “I’m very excited to introduce this new piece available exclusively through John Rigby & Co. It depicts Jim Corbett, the naturalist, conservationist and hunter, famous for his exploits hunting man-eating tigers and leopards in India during the first half of the 20th century. Here, Corbett faces down the final moments of the Champawat tigress, his first man-eater and the most prolific man-eater in recorded history. Importantly, while he was famous for hunting man-eaters, Corbett was foremost a conservationist and one of the earliest to advocate for the preservation of tigers and all Indian wildlife and their habitat at a time when that opinion was quite unpopular. I hope this piece honours Jim Corbett’s legend and legacy.”
