rigby 9.3x74r bolt action for finn's christmas present 2012

paul not had a chance for him to try it as the weather has been wet and cr-p. it is a well balanced comfortable rifle. in fact when i picked it up i had forgotten how nice it was, and shame on me nearly thought about keeping it for me!!!:o i told finn this and now he keeps asking how jealous i am!!!! :monkey: will probably use my favourite 293grn rws factory loads which the irons are set for, but when the scope is sorted will try some lighter bullets to give him a bit more range.

hey spike,
how did finn's first shoot go with his new addition?

when are you next out?

hope all is well

cheers

i will definately pop in if i am not up at Tanganyika

gun dealer santa has delivered to finn again :A Yeah: he managed to find a browning superposed 12 bore A1 105 special skeet gun . this is the same as my father bought me in 1974 (year mine was made) this one was made in 1975 and is in near mint condition :A Thumbs Up:

Congrats Mike!

I really love the way that room is decorated! That big warthog in the background there, is a terrific trophy!

No doubt about you Spike, you're a class act Father (y)

Owning a beautiful gun is certainly a special thing, but having it given to you by your Dad adds a certain irreplaceable "provenance" that makes it priceless.

Finn will get a lifetime of enjoyable shooting from that 12 bore and will forever be reminded of his bond with his Father when he does so. You can't buy THAT with money !

Congrats to both of you and may you both enjoy a lifetime of memories together enjoying your hunting and shooting (y)

That's a fine gun Mike Santa is good to Finn.

definitely , dad of the year again , cobb.......

eric the pig is from tanzania in 1989. where we are is not really a room . "the bar"is behind me and down the other end is the dining room. the wall behind finn is the old exterior wall, and the floor to ceiling windows you can see behind the table continue round the whole front on my right to the bar with opening doors onto a seating area overlooking the bay. its great being a georgian age house as the ceilings are very high, so great for putting some trophies on the wall, and for fitting the pole on the dance floor ;)

Great looking rifle!
Congrats Finn and treat it well!

Mike, if your like me its hard to remember the Christmas presents I got as a youngster. Very few stand out over the years. The 9.3 and 12b will be remembered by Finn long after you are gone. Great job making memories with your son!(y)

All the best.

Few stand out and even fewer are kept over time. These will do both! Very, very cool.

I am guilty of the 11th commandment...................Though shalt not covert thy neighbours rifle..................sigh:sick:

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS FOR MY RIFLE, ALWAYS APPROACH A NEW LOAD CAUTIOUSLY!!*
Rifle is a Pierce long action, 32" 1:8.5 twist Swan{Au} barrel
{You will want a 1:8.5 to run the heavies but can get away with a 1:9}
Peterson .280AI brass, CCI 200 primers, 56.5gr of 4831SC, 184gr Berger Hybrid.

I know that this thread is more than a year old but as a new member I thought I would pass along my .280AI loading.
I am shooting F Open long range rather than hunting but here is what is working for me and I have managed a 198.14 at 800 meters.
That is for 20 shots. The 14 are X's which is a 5" circle.
