Rigby 350 Magnum

I look at the stock design on that rifle and think that if I want those ballistics a second hand 30/06 win m70 rebarreled to 35 whelen would be a far better gun.

If the Winchester stock fitted me that's what I would have done. The mate was selling one in 270 with the new CRF for $900,bloody beautiful conditions. The winners design just slaps me silly even in the little 270. We won't mention the 338.
Look for a second hand Stevens 200 or savage in 25/06, 06 or 270 then get a Whelen barrel and have a switch barrel. Won't be as pretty as the Winnie but you get a 2 for one. A 25/06 and a Whelen in one.
Cheers mate Bob

Well bless my soul, that sir is a very fine looking rifle indeed.
I suggest that if he doesn't blink at the price of the rifle, the cost of new cases is not an issue...

Wheres the fun in that.
Also I'd chose something better then a Win M70, and in my place just about any brand is better. That is the M70 gives me the hebbi geebies, for what ever reason. I have never tried one that fit me well or even comfortable and the bolt handle has to be the fugliest one in the world. + other than old well worn M70's never tried one with a bolt that was smooth and did not hang up on closing bolt handle down. Yep I know they are considered to be a great rifle just never worked for me. think I might need to try one with a better stock and altered bolt handle.

we will have to differ on that.
if I needed a new rifle it would be an m70 in a flash, unless a xlotto win made another Dakota action more accessable.
or one of the new mauser 98s.?

go for it!!! just traded mine back to paul last year for another rifle. kynoch still load it and as mrVD @Velo Dog says it was loaded originally with a 225grn bullet in soft and solid, they used to load the solids as well but seem to have stopped. photos of the rifle please

If that's what the 350 Rigby is loaded to the better put a bit more coal on the fire as the Whelen properly loaded is 300 fps faster.
The Whelen will put out a 225 grain at 2,900fps and a 250 grain at 2,700 fps leaving the Rigby in its wake. The Rigby does have the uber cool factor tho

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
