Rigby’s first 450 No 2 NE

Too many assumptions ..
What is wrong "coming from South Africa" ?
It is where a lot of people here go to hunt
Is it impossible to be both a - conservationist as well as a HUNTER
Has the space and habitat left for "free-roaming" African Elephant been constantly shrinking ?
Are there areas where Elephant are starving to death because of overpopulation ?
What did Alan Savoury say about all the Elephant he had killed ?

The Journal of African Elephants

A deep troubling and VERY difficult debate - with one clear observation - there are too many people - too much "civilisation"
and
Too much money involved

As mentioned I spent time in the Zambezi valley on the river
Saw large groups of Elephant every day going down to the river
At night they would come to feed on the wild plum tree outside my bedroom window - with just some wire mesh and mosquito netting between them and me
Spent time on the river ( near Mana Pools ) pulling tusks out of decaying carcasses that had been shot / poached in Zambia
Was friends with the people that owned the Lion and Elephant park outside Salisbury / Harare who had Elephant ( and other animals ) that were trained for movie work
SO ;
I tend to see Elephant a little different to most folks
Much as I would like to say here
You clearly don’t understand the value hunting plays in conservation, and you are diverting a very interesting thread. It is probably best that the subject be dropped and we get back to the build of an epic rifle!

Read about Operation NOAH - the operation to move wild life out of the areas that were being flooded
The Zambezi valley where Ian Nyschens shot most of his Elephant

Operation NOAH

Why are we not celebrating Rupert Fothergill
Who saved animals instead of killing them ?

I spent time at Kariba town as well as on the lake on a home built house boat ( all steel ) Bumi Hills / Fothergill island / Spurwing / Sengwe mouth and saw unmolested wild life in it's natural environment.
Before ZImbabwe became another ruin ..

This is a really weird comment. I suspect the person may be an anti-hunter. The reason being: This is a hunting forum that respects conservation, but nobody on this forum would ask this question:

"Why are we not celebrating Rupert Fothergill
Who saved animals instead of killing them ?"

Answer would be self-evident to a hunter on a hunting forum. We don't have a section on this forum to celebrate Sir David Attenborough either. It's a hunting forum. Weird.

My apologies to the OP "Sourdough" for interrupting his thread
May he have much enjoyment from his new rifle

I should have posted elsewhere instead of in his post
I have now done that here ... Preservation - Nature Conservation

Peace .. Out

One of the greatest elephant hunters of all times......hunting them where few dared to do so.....big brass balls....a true legend.....and yes more than one southern african country over populated with elephant......
Fabulous book one of my favorites!!!

Just got these photos. Much prettier then I anticipated. Can't wait to see the engraving.

Absolutely stunning…

Though I’m not at all surprised… Rigby only does stunning work these days… everything I’ve seen coming out of their factory for the last few years is nothing short of a work of art that also happens to go “bang”…

Now this thread is going places. Pictures really draw us in, especially with wood like that.

On the new Shikari rifles, where are the actions and barrels manufactured? Mauser factory in Germany or?

Assuming the bench in the photos for stocking and finish work is in London?

Thank you for sharing.

That is very kind of you! The team works hard to deliver and will be pleased to hear this feedback.

That rifle is absolutely outstanding. I wish it all the success that the Rigby rifle attached to this posting has had. It is a 470NE made in 1910 and has been to Africa dozens of time by its four or five custodians.
As eager as I am to see the Skikari rifles really take off and cannot wait for the time honored double with quarry photos, giving tribute both to the animal and the artful tool utilized….that 115 year-old rifles is a dream addition for anyone. Expect each of its past, present and future custodians have many life memories because of it.

I am new to the double world, have only owned a few Heym’s which are fine rifles with zero complaints, but am early 1900’s Rigby Nitro is on my dream sheet for sure.

It is. But even more so is the thought of its first hunt in March with Buzz, his fantastic team and my good friend Richard Harland. Elephant, Lion and Buffalo. Gonna be epic.

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
