Rhino bullets

One of the best bullets out there today. I've used the 300Gr Rhino Solid Shank in a .375 Holland & Holland Magnum to take two of my Cape buffalo (both were one-shot kills) . Never used the heavier weights, because the 300Gr worked perfectly well for me. But I've got no doubt that they will be fabulous.

Aside from the 300Gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, the 300Gr Rhino Solid Shank has got to be my favorite bullet for the .357 Holland & Holland Magnum, without a doubt. Too bad, they are not available as factory loaded ammunition.

Will this work on Krieghoff Double?
Kreighoff doesn't offer a warranty for monolithic bullets. So the Rhino monolithic solids shouldn't be used. But the Rhino Solid Shanks ar good to go.

Not sure where is that coming from. There is a letter from Krieghoff in some other forum on this topic. I have talked to one of their Gunsmiths as well. He said you can use Solids, however this is not a match rifle but a hunting rifle, using too many solids will wear out the barrel faster.
This I believe is true for any double even the best ones from England...

I have talked to Krieghoff directly and verified so I'm good. Monolithic solids will ultimately wear out even the Londons best.

Dear Sir;

Thank you for your inquiry. Generally speaking, yes, you can use solid copper bullets in our Classic Double Rifle. However, it is a hunting gun and not a match rifle and a large number of solid bullets shot through the gun will wear it quicker. We recommend using the soft bullets for target practice and the solid only for hunting.

I hope this helpful!

Thank you!
H&H, WR have the same thing

Not just Krieghoff Even swift bullets said that mono solids are not good for barrels. Good idea to use solids for hunting only.

Then, you’re fine. To put matters into perspective, here is Heym’s view on monolithic solid bullets. Very reassuring.

I’m pretty sure that most English gunmakers (barring John Rigby & Co.) discourage the use of monolithic bullets in their wares. At least the Westley Richards people seem to ardently think so.

Solid copper and solid brass are not the same thing......ask them if you can shoot solid brass bullets and they will tell you it will void the guarantee....unless that has changed from their side

Why would you use brass? Modern homogeneous copper/zinc-alloy bullets will not disintegrate or deflect when impacting heavy bone. They resist deformation so well some hunters have actually retrieved these bullets from game and reused them on later hunts.

For me this is a non issue..

Good if that works for you.......

I have only had exceptional performance from the Rhino Solid Shank points I have used. I use the 180gr in my 300 win Mag travelling @ 2996fps
I stand to be corrected but I think Kobus has now sold to a gent in JHB. But the points are still readily available.

Yes correct new owners and the quality control is a lot better. Very open minded. I will be exploring with them a solid bullet design I have always wanted as well as a 600gr .510 and 420gr .423

The rhinos are effective on game, given that the shots are not to long and the velocity is high enough to allow expansion. The 9,3x62 comes to mind, where I’ve had 286 and 300 gr bullets fail to expand at a muzzle velocity of 2250 & 2200 fps respectively.

I used 140 gr solid shanks in my 6,5x55 for many years, and probably have 30-35 bullets at home that were retrieved from game and expanded very well. I still have a box of them left and will use them some day.

However, the lack of QC eventually made me decide to move on to other brands such as Swift, Woodleigh, Nosler, Barnes, etc.

In a box of 50x 6,5mm bullets, weights would differ from 139,0 gr to 142,5 gr, and the length would differ with 2,5mm.

I also once bought a box of 200gr 8mm (.323) bullets that caused quite high pressures, with blown primers and sticky extraction. When I measured them on the micrometer they were .325”.

So in summary, good bullet and design, but QC is terrible. If I want a solid shank bullet I will go with North Fork or South African made Safari Bullet Company, where the quality is up to scratch.

Clearly did not read above that new owners are now in charge and qc is up to scratch again....new plant is in GP

You know if they have a supplier in the UK?

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.

Mark
