REPORT: Has Anyone Used Splitting Image Taxidermy?

I am using them for my April 24 Blue Wildebeest rug based on my outfitters recommendation
Two years is ridiculous, as I said in this thread they sent my capes loaded with ticks, luckily USFW was not fully able to open the capes otherwise my shipment would have been destroyed. I for one could and would not use them ever again or endorse them.

So you shot a Buffalo this month(Aug 2024) congrats, A little soon to determine if the meet the schedule.

My bad, Tim T. It was August 2023.

Splitting Image told me 12 to 14 months from deposit for the work to be done.

We used them to tan and salt but no taxidermy in 2022. Took 18months and few messages from me to get things shipped to US

Dip and pack as well as beautiful carved impala and warthog skulls. They were good after a hiccup with the carver.

Splitting image has had my trophies for 28 months. They say they are ready be ship. Not sure I believe them.

The promise 8 to 12 months from the time they get your deposit, They told me my outfitter was ver slow in getting them my deposit, But splitting image never told me this until I emailed asking what was up with my trophies. I am getting very tired of dealing with the poor customer supports.

Hey everyone, SSI will be handling my DG and PG hunt this year with KMG. They recommended I use Splitting Image to dip/pack. Anyone have any experience with them?
I would never use SSI again. It took them over 30 month to get my trophies ready for shipping. Once ship the papar work was not forwarded wit the shippment which cost me almost $2000 in additional stoarge at my end while I waited for the paper work. Total unsatified costumer.
I use Highveld taxidermy for previuous hunts and items where prepared on time and ship seemlessly.

30 months wow! Did you get your outfitter involved?
I used SI and had to get Garry Kelly safaris and they got their attention!

I used Splitting Image for my Eastern Cape trophies that I took with African Cape Safaris. Nice shop and Aschlee was very efficient. My only complaints are that they were more expensive than Highveld for more basic mounts. Also, I never received any pictures of my mounts until they were crated. The crate was given to Badger Cargo. Please, understand that Badger did an efficient job of handling my crate. However, I contacted Oxi-Logistics with weight and dimensions of my crate and asked what they would have charged from Port Elizabeth. They would have been about $600 cheaper. Oxi also takes credit cards. Badger could not. I absolutely hate wire transfers.
Having said all of that, my mounts are beautiful. @johnnyblues: I'm sorry that you had a negative experience.
I hate wire transfer as well, no reason that a bank check can't be utilized as they have your work hostage until it clears. From what I've read there's no financial leverage that one can use once you received what you paid for. The PH's that recommend them should be culpable as well for their work. I'm sure that the PH's get a kick back for the work that they send their way.

The obvious solution is to pay dip and pack and ship home! Have your capes tanned and then if the quality suits you have them mounted. It’s slower but you can avoid some heart ache. If the capes are bad, that’s a bummer but they did not get mounted up. I have nothing against African taxidermists. I like a little more control.

Totally agree. Why take chances having all your taxidermy in Africa. Dip and pack and bring that home and find a great taxidermy here at home. Make sure you use a taxidermy with lots of African experience.

From a summer 2023 safari, I’m going on 14 months from deposit currently. Promise recently communicated from management was a July delivery. Ive had 3 different account reps over this period, so personnel turnover seems high.

Actually having taxidermy done in Africa puts money in your pocket not the opposite.
Do you know how expensive taxidermy in US is?
Have you read through this thread? You must believe what you just posted because you’ve stated it more than once. I guess that says something…

Out of all the different color variations of Impala the black Impala just stands out with its beautiful pitch black hide.

Impala is one of the animals you will see all over Africa.
You can see them in herds of a 100 plus together.

This excellent ram was taken with one of our previous client this past season.
