Reloading Press for 4" Cartridge, 500/416, 470 Nitro, 500 Nitro

@rookhawk dosnt the area 419 press have compatibility issues with some brands of shell holders? It would be something to keep in mind.

Correct. I made a chart and put it on another thread to show which shell holders work in which calibers. There is a convoluted solution to get every caliber to 500NE to load on a zero press and that solution rarely involves an RCBS shellholder.

The rock chucker supreme is an excellent press for larger cartridges. No need to pay over the top prices for a press.

Comparing a Rock Chucker to a zero419 is like comparing a slab of granite on the side of the road to the marble sculpture of David.

Some folks won’t care one way or the other, but the level of precision, Plus a progressive turret, plus the additional strength, all have pluses.

If I couldnt afford a 419 or a refused to spend that money, my next choice would be an ammomaster2, if I still wouldn’t spend that money, my third choice would be the single stage Lee press that can handle 500NE sized cartridges.

$1200+ vs $400 vs $200.

Having a progressive is nice. I wished the larger cartridges would fit in my Dillon but with the whole shell plate business it doesn't work. It is fine up to 416 rigby and similar. I bought the rock chucker just for longer cartridges or cartridges like the 500 jeff that have larger diameter dies. Since I'm not loading those in large volume it works all right. While 419 does make very nice equipment for the additional difference in funds you can afford a lot of extra reloading components. If you're one of those people who have to worry about such things.

I have been using the LEE 50 BMG press for all my 375H&H and longer rounds for years.

The half inch between 375 H&H and 416 Rigby 3.5" length cartridges and a 4" 500/416 is massive when loading. I have done this with 3.5" cartridges on my 50 year Rock Chucker press.

I bought a Area 419 Press, shown with a 4" 500/416 cartridge

My trusty Rock Chucker, a Christmas present from my mom when I was 15 years old.

Mark, if Area 419 presses were available back in the early 80(s) when I bought my Dillon, I probably would have bought one. But given my current need for a few larger caliber reloads the Super Rock Chucker works just fine.

Really like my Redding Ultramag reloading press. The opening from the front is a bit different than the "O" frame presses you get to from the side.

Then, there's this ... Just got concrete poured in shop barn, and need to free stand mount this -

And the shipping weight is no joke.

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
