Recommendations for Pronghorn outfitter

One thing with hunting antelope in Wyoming is that unless you are looking for a spectacular buck you'll have no problem getting one.

My last hunt lasted all of 15-20 minutes. As I had mentioned I hunted with Table Mountain Outfitters. They have a number of private ranches under contract and you hunt out of their bunkhouse. If you want to fly in you'll fly to Denver and rent a car and drive to Cheyenne about a hour away. I got there on Tuesday, and and shot my antelope on Wednesday morning. They have a meat cooler and freezer on site if you want to cut up your meat. But a butcher is available for $150.
Sounds great. Did you.need points on the private ranches?

I had a number of points that I had collected along with my hunting partner who passed away a few years ago and since I was having a hard time finding someone with close to the points I had so I decided to go on my own.

I'm not sure how many points that the unit that I hunted took but I'm sure that it was less than I had.

If you are interested in a guided hunt with Table Mountain I'll suggest that you send them a email and ask Angie what it takes for the areas that they have under contract.

I know that they have a number of returning hunters but I don't know what their point situation is.

Thank you, Sir! I will do that!

SNS. Send an email to Amber. Good people. Great places to hunt. Shot a great antelope with them. Plan to go back. Sy, the owner, is a great guy.

So you can use the points on anything? Like if you applied for pronghorn muke and elk you get 3x a year?
No, it’s only to draw a tag. So the area I hunted needed a minimum of 7 points to draw a tag or I wouldn’t have been able to hunt. So I applied for 9 years worth of points, and used them when I applied for the tag . If I only had 6 points, I most likely wouldn’t have gotten the tag and would have waited for another year or two collecting points.

For elk in Wyoming, you need a minimum of 3-5 points to draw a tag in any area. Some areas are 15+. The point system is a money grab, but is put in place to try and help hunters know when they can draw.

If you apply for a tag and do not draw, does that burn your points?

No you keep them. If you don’t buy more points every year, then you can lose them for no activity.

Look into Jim River Guide Service. Willie does a great job.
He hunts in South Dakota.

They are managing numbers of people in addition to managing numbers of animals taken. We can’t all hunt our favorite unit every year. . .

Here is another thing Wyoming does really well.

Request your copy of these publications and it will give you information on guides and outfitters, hunter and trophies of the year and more information. It will be invaluable if you are seeking an outfitter.

Points are animal specific. You can't have 10 elk points and use them on antelope, they have to be antelope points.

In Wyoming you can put in for the draw but if you don't draw you still need to purchase a point for the animals that you want to hunt. The point purchase time frame is different than the draw time frame.

Other states give you a point if you don't draw a tag but Wyoming changed the process a number of years ago.

Hunting in the western US can get confusing at times for those who just start putting in.

That's a great point..

I burned 9 elk points last year, and now i have to wait till 2029 at a minimum to hunt elk there again...
Yeah if you are really bloody lucky! Probably 10 or 12.

I am on the fence about weather to help someone or not getting started. No one really helped me I figured it out on my own.

The real question is competition is really stiff. So I try to give some pointers, but not give everyone the keys to the castle.

Anyone can call WTA or another agent and get a hunt.

Years ago my uncle invited a few guys to our spot, then it wasn't our spot anymore. Those guys invited another 100 people and now point creep has killed it for everyone.

Explaining how the point system works is a far cry than taking someone out to hunt with you or showing them where you are hunting.

I feel like alot of people are just like I know how it works scew everyone else.

I had some people jump all over me for telling a tag holder where I would go and what to expect when I got there on a few limited entry hunts in Utah and some high point units here in Colorado. I just told them that if I don't have a tag for those hunts I'm not hurting myself and am helping another hunter in a unit that I may know quite well.

But on the points, if someone wants information on how they work or what they need to do I'll help them as much as I can. There is no need for them to subscribe to a hunting service to try and figure it out. As for how many points that it takes to draw a tag, most states offer that on their game and fish web sites. It may be a little buried but I am more than happy to try and help.

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!
