Recommendations for Family hunt, preferring wild countries

Over the years, I've definitely shortlisted alot of outfitters and PHs on my wishlist. So I have contacted a bunch. But I figured I should post this to see whom I may of forgotten, or didn't think of.

Hoping to book a 2026 safari for my father, myself, brother and his 13yr son. Everyone would be mainly hunting PG, I would possibly be interested in another Buff/ele or hippo.

This would be the other three's first trip to Africa. I hunted Buff in Zim in 2018. Truely a 10/10 expierence.

Would prefer a somewhat old style of hunt. Tented. Large concession/conservancy, no fences, or just perimeter. hopefully hunt one area not having to travel to others. Zambia, Zim, Namibia, Botswana. Not against SA, but I'm particular in areas I hunt. I would have thought Moz and a coutada, but under the events that happened I don't need my mother and family giving me grief if they Googled Mozambique Safari in the news.

Goals would be to get my brother a kudu possibly his son. My dad and nephew would be mainly observers, but if opportunity arose to take a impala/zebra/kudu etc. just odd animal. I know this isn't possible in some areas with licensing, that's why I ask.

We aren't the type to take a grocery list of trophies. A few good representative animals with the main focus on them is what we want. I'd rather pay for the day rates to cover expenses and take fewer animals which mean more to you, then vice versa.

Personally I wouldn’t discount moz

The country has had some trouble in the north no doubt but the south is a longway from those troubles & never saw a hint of any issues recently as

Good Day AH members.

I want to do this hunting report on behalf of two great guys Rusty from Florida in the US and Fordy from Tasmania , AUS , that has joined us in our area in Southern Mozambique bordering Gonarezhou National Park of Zim.They are not members here on AH but I did ask them to join.The hunt was from 5 to 17 May

I can also give you first hand info that Southern Mozambique is perfectly safe , no issues at all and the surrounding communities are not even aware of the troubles up north.

the camp we stayed in was more fitting to your description above than what the new camp that’s yet to be completed would be imo but the new camp was shaping up very well & maybe that’s one you’d consider also

Another is a wild area in Zambia. You can find my 2022 hunt report on my profile. Let me know if you want more info. I hunted plains game and had a great safari. Plenty of buffalo and hippo there as well. Zambia offers a cheap companion license system. In 2022, it was only $650 for a companion hunter to split quota with me. In Tanzania, it’s over $10k for a companion license. Zambia offers several species not found free range anywhere else, or very sparingly. Species such as puku, lechwe, sitatunga, etc… are not offered in very many other free range areas. In addition, the sable where I hunted are huge. The PH was one of the hardest working and the best judge of game I’ve been around.

Thanks @Fordy and tsala, I personally would hunt southern Moz no issue for sure. I've followed the news and read into it a lot, I just don't know if the female family members will raise hell if they caught wind on it is all. Solo trip is book in a heart beat.

@375Fox I actually did reach out to Jamy as I've seen reports and seems to fit the bill for this group

@Scott CWO I think Zambia may be top of my list currently. Just need to find the right area and fit, I talked to two PHs and it's definitely leading currently, but of course I'm open to all recommendations.

And thanks for the write up Umlilo Safaris. I know there's definitely some great areas and hunts in SA, especially like you mentioned, catering to the hunt style of the client they are looking for. That means a lot. I'll definitely do more research

Would love to hunt Tanzania one day. But definitely not in the budget this go round. Appreciate the recommendation
