In the research and planning phase of considering a BC black bear hunt. Looking for recommendations on guides and outfitters to look into

Lots of options, lots of different price points. Do you want a boat based hunt? Do you want to do some fishing? Do you have a certain date in mind? What’s your budget? Have you hunted bears before? Looking for a real trophy or a nice representative bear?

I would love a boat based hunt but to be honest based on research I have done to this point I think those will fall a little above where the budget is. Have some flexibility with budget but would like to stay in the 6k or under territory.

Likely looking for a spring hunt but not dead set on that not sure if BC offers fall hunts or not. Dates are flexible but don’t want to be too late in the spring where they are more likely to be rubbed out.

Have not hunted bears and don’t need a giant but would like a solid representative bear but the opportunity for a real trophy would be nice.

Take a look at https://www.horseshoecreekoutfitters.com/

I did a moose hunt a few years ago with them and will likely give a spring bear hunt a try with them. They have a nice lodge and cabins. Give Frank Miles or Ray Jackson a call.

I don’t know for sure but 6k might be a pre Covid price.

If your hears not set on bc Newfoundland offers a better bang for your buck. 4500 for two bears or 6500 for a moose with a stumble on bear tag.

White mountain Apache Indian reservation. Many B&C color phase bears. Call Keith Atcheson

These folks have donated a bear hunt to our San Angelo SCI Banquet for many years. (Coming up March 1). Many people from my area have hunted with them for black bear with great success.

thanks for the recommendations keep them coming. Going to look into all them.

Not dead set on BC but want a spot and stalk hunt not super interested in sitting over a bait site

Newfoundland or New Brunswick either one would offer you spot and stalk options

Lots of great spot and stalk black bear hunting in Alaska. It is very possible to DIY in AK if you are a US citizen.

I’m curious about where in New Brunswick Spot and Stalk is done, every place I have seen there is incredibly dense. I thought all the outfitters there are using bait.

I’m on the water fishing right now I’ll pm you some info when I get in

I also highly recommend Sean Lingl @canadianguideoutfitters on Vancouver Island. My wife and I went in May, 2023 and it was one of best hunting trips I've been on in many, many years. The lodge is beautiful, the food is outstanding and the hunting is superb. Sean and his crew work their butts off to ensure a great experience for everyone. We stayed on Vancouver Island for an extra week touring the island and turned the hunt into a really nice vacation. And, as you can see below the bears are huge. We'll be going back before too much longer!

FYI Baiting in BC is not allowed. I am bias of course as I live in Victoria, on Vancouver island ( south end).
But there is no shortage of bears on the North end, most hunt if not all hunting is spot & stock of old clear cuts in the spring when the first crop of berries is out. You ill see lots of bears, really only challenge is find a good size boar. But your outfitter will have done a pre scout and know where the older bigger boars have been feeding.
If you do decide on Vancouver Island , do as Steve M mentioned and spend a bit of time on the island, Tofino & Ucluelet & Victoria.
cheers
Pat

Morning Rob, Any feeling for how the 300 H&H shoots? How's the barrel condition?

Hello. I see you hunted with Sampie recently. If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt with him? Zim or SA? And was it with a bow? What did you hunt?

I am possibly going to book with him soon.
