Recently acquired 1975 BRNO ZKK-602 375 H&H from gun show

JJ Perodeau recommended Mackool Firearms in Tulsa which is now 918 Guns in Tulsa. I haven’t contacted them yet. Seems like all the gunsmiths who had expertise with these rifles are gone, retired, or no longer doing this work.

My old friend Dennis Olson from Montana had a stroke awhile back and while recovering pretty well, isn’t taking anymore work, he’s in his 80’s. Triple River is long gone. No more AHR and Matrix not taking work. I’m not aware of any gunsmiths in the OKC area who do this kind of work either, which is closer to where we live.

I’ll certainly let you know if I find someone. I’ll probably contact 918 Guns (Mackool) and see what they say, little skeptical though. If a gunsmith doesn’t have expertise with a Brno ZKK or CZ 550 I’m not going to chance it.

Thank you!…. You answered 2 questions in one reply.

#1 a gunsmith worthy of the work.

#2 Now I know why Dennis Olson hasn’t called me about the other BRNO that I sent him 2 YEARS ago!

Roger that. So B&C it is.

Does B&C make a stock for a 602. They make them for the CZ550 but if I remember correct they don't match directly to the 602 and an alteration needs to be made. Perhaps I am remembering things wrong and am happy to be corrected.

Congratulations on the score!

Bell & Carlson also make aftermarket stocks. I had one on my CZ550 and found it a pleasure to shoot. The Kevlar/fiberglas stocks seem to flex more than the wood making them feel softer recoiling. Not a big consideration with a mid-bore like a 375, but still nice.

I think the McMillan is a little slimmer than the B&C, just depends on your preference.

Either will place your eye in a better location for using a scope than using the one that came with it.
Thanks sir, I’m going to mount a scope first and see how it feels before deciding on a new stock.

I’ll have to do some research, quite possible may need a little inletting, but no new stock for now until I scope it and see how it feels.

Nice that you found a mate to your Brno 602. They are a fine rifle and dependable piece that with time and the efforts of a knowledge smith will increase nicely in value
Altho you may be like me in that the rifle I have confidence in thru usage is more important then money.
