I don't see any outward signs of rust or a "salt gun" on the usual places mentioned in the video.
Since it's been kicking around for 57 years and still seems to function OK, it seems just as good to shoot it and take it hunting. Most likely it will last another 20-25 years, which is realistically the duration of my hunting career.
I have access to silver nitrate easily enough. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to pop it out of the stock and check it out. If it flunks, it seems like the expense to put it back in a proper stock would exceed the value of the rifle..... so I dunno....
