Questions about a Browning Safari Rifle in .375 H&H

Thanks for the video. Great information.

I don't see any outward signs of rust or a "salt gun" on the usual places mentioned in the video.

Since it's been kicking around for 57 years and still seems to function OK, it seems just as good to shoot it and take it hunting. Most likely it will last another 20-25 years, which is realistically the duration of my hunting career.

I have access to silver nitrate easily enough. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to pop it out of the stock and check it out. If it flunks, it seems like the expense to put it back in a proper stock would exceed the value of the rifle..... so I dunno....

It does indeed. I am happy to report my buffalo only required a single shot. As I said, I have no idea if any Browning Safari models were so equipped.

The picture I posted is from my Browning Safari in 308 Norma Mag, and my 30-06 has the same style bolt release. As far as I know, all of the Browning Hi-Power rifles (Safari, Medallion, and Olympian grade) with the FN action used that same style bolt release.

I would definitely pop it out of the stock and take a look, but unless you see clearly visible signs of rust, you're almost certainly in the clear by this point and I wouldn't worry about it. The only thing I would maybe do is get it glass bedded from the tang to just forward of the front lug, and I would probably only do that if it doesn't shoot as is. My 30-06 isn't glass bedded and is a 3/4 MOA gun with 3 shots at 100 yards.

Note: If you decide to take it out of the stock, please know that those crossbolt caps on the side are merely decorative and don't need to be removed. You only need to remove the bolts from underneath in order to take it out of the stock.

It only takes 5 minutes to pull the action out of the stock and take a look. Well worth the peace of mind.
