I went to UPS shipping terminal to ship ammo to a friend. They have closed down their customer service desk. Regular UPS stores can’t ship. How do you all ship ammo?
Thank you
Don

USPS or fedex ground. Or the privately managed UPS stores

It’s becoming a PIA for someone not a store to ship ammo.

Following with high interest.

TELL THEM ITS SOCKS! ;)

The UPS stores are notorious for not taking ammo or ANYTHING firearm related.... I learned this recently when I shipped a "lathe shaft" to a gunsmith.

Another thing I learned recently, if you print the label at home and drop it off at a UPS store they can't ask you what's inside and just verify the weight and dimensions correspond to the shipping label.

I've received ammo from unsuspecting people but the USPS had no idea that it was in the shipment or there could of been problems.

I've had to navigate this a few times in the last year, so I hope this helps.

UPS has closed most of it's Customer Service Centers around the Country. These are the ones that used to be located at a major UPS Terminal and warehouse locations where dozens if not hundreds of UPS Semi-trucks would be loaded and unloaded daily. The job has now been farmed out to local UPS centers in your neighborhood, and most of those WILL NOT ACCEPT ammo, primers, or anything hazmat or firearm related.

What UPS now requires is for you to set up an account with them, similar to a store, or commercial vendor, including your CC information. After you set up an account, you use your computer to print a shipping label, and pickup is arranged online. You must have the proper HAZMAT label on the box prior to the pickup, as the driver is not responsible for providing one to you.

UPS will ship, but the label has to be preprinted. To avoid the hassle I just ship FedEx.

I've checked with Fed Ex and USPS. Neither one ships ammo, at least from non ffls. Ammo must be labeled with the appropriate label to be shipped with UPS.
I've run into the same problem as the original poster. Same problem with shipping guns, although USPS will still ship firearms.
I was told that I could arrange an account with UPS to have pickup at my home, but there would be a $30 surcharge in addition to the shipping charge. I am not comfortable shipping firearms or ammo in ways that violate the carriers rules.
So, I'll be following this thread for a solution.

Skydive,
I didn't see your post before I posted. Thanks. Your experience is very helpful. I got bounced around on the phone with a feeling that no one i spoke with knew what the correct procedures were.
A couple questions.
What is CC info?
I'm curious, did you have the extra surcharge.
Was there any additional stuff needed for the small arms ammo other than the label?
Thanks, again.

If you have a question on shipping ammo or firearms both UPS and FedEx have web sites where you can find out just what you can and can not ship and how you need to do it.

Then if you are shipping something, print out the requirements for that item and take it with you to their customer service terminal. Any problems, ask for a supervisor and show them the page that you printed.

I would never rely on a counter person for much more than general information.

Credit Card information.
Yes, these are additional charges for anything hazmat related. Often it's a flat fee, but is substantial, so shipping small amounts of primers for instance becomes more expensive than it's worth.

For firearms there is insurance that becomes a concern.

There is no additional HAZMAT charge on loaded ammunition. The required label (two sides of package) denotes “Limited Quantity” (small arms cartridges).

I shipped some ammo to fellow AHers recently. UPS wouldn't touch it. I went online to fedex.com, printed the label with the pertinent info, affixed the orm-d sticker, took it to my local Walgreen's. They took it no questions asked and the deliveries went through just fine. Don't even try your UPS local stores. Much easier and faster online.

Pre printed labels is the way to go. As Newboomer stated, drop off is easiest. I drop off at a local independent shipper that UPS, Fedex and USPS picks up every day.

So far, FEDEX works for me

Arrange for a Pick up at your home by creating an account. place ammo sign on your package with the printed label and actually easier than shipping direct at center. I arrange the day to ship then just place it outside my door. easy pezzy

Most of mine comes UPS ground, I have one supplier that ships Fedex ground.

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
Here we are, the last day of the show in Denver, it's been a good show but expecting a quiet day today. I will be back for-sure to do this show next year and maybe also do the one in Sacramento California.

On Monday I will be hitting the road driving from Denver and eventually make it down to Atlanta for the flight home.

its going to be a good year!

Hi Rem280, Saw your post on getting selected for Idaho Elk. Do you have a zone(s) selected? I live in N Idaho, might be able to offer some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig
