Question For Our German & Austrian Members

I never had the luxury of having specific animal shape designed target.
I stick to geometry shaped targets, I follow the MOA doctrine, and keep shooting.
On occasion, I do have roe deer 1:1 size targets, that were proven OK.
If I can keep roe deer vital zone accuracy at various distances, most likely I will keep the same on live size animal like buffalo or ele.

The problem with animal paper targets are they are two dimensional.
In case of elephant brain shot in real life, the POA depends on angle and distance, and head posture.
An for that I need three-dimensional image of vital zone (brain or heart), so with this, paper target does not help (me).

OneDay, doesn’t the brain lay 90 degrees to your drawing? Wider ear to ear than top to bottom?

This thread very much reminds me of the ancient Greek pastime of arguing how many spirits could dance on the head of a pin.

I will have to check WDM Bells drawings.

I thought the monks were discussing how many angels could dance on the head of a pin--all the while Constantinople was falling!! Really relevant to their congregants....

Of course! :)

The purpose of this target is NOT to help the shooter identify where the brain is in a live elephant, it is simply to put in perspective the size of a group, and the point of impact vs point of aim, as they relate to the desired outcome: placing the rounds in the brain.

No, it is not. As indicated previously:
  • Length (back to front): ~12" to 14"
  • Height (top to bottom): ~6" to 8"
  • Width (right to left / ear to ear): ~4" to 6"
The reason the frontal brain shot target is oval in the vertical plane is because the brain is NOT like a football (or rugby ball for our non-US friends). Footballs / rugby balls are oval in the horizontal plane and round in the vertical plane. An elephant brains is actually oval in both horizontal and vertical planes.

Just to clarify:

Note: in the illustration you attached Altitude sickness, the front and side views are not represented at the same scale. We all know that the side brain is a significantly larger target than the front brain, right? This can be confusing. The above rectifies this ;)

I hope this helps :)

My apologies for any grief that I may have caused you. I now have a pit in my stomach and I'm really pissed off and embarrassed. I feel that I have been made a fool of.

Please accept my apology.

Hello,
I might be able to help you out depending on how many you need. I could probably spare 50-75 .285g A-Frames. They are factory pulls that look like new. Let me know if you are still looking,
Thanks,
Gary
