Question for Chapuis Owners

I have the opportunity to buy a Chapuis Elan Classic and wanted to know from people who actually own a Chapuis what your experience has been. There are lots of posts on this forum ranking the DR's, and yes, I have read many times that Heym has descended straight from heaven where it was crafted by higher beings with quality inspection and regulation by angels, but the rifle that I may be able to purchase is a Chapuis. So I would like to hear from actual Chapuis owners what your experience has been. What is likely to break, fail or disappoint? On the flip side, if you have owned more than one DR, what do you like about the Chapuis over some of the others.

If this has been asked and answered, please direct me to the thread. Like I mentioned above, I've seen lots of threads ranking DRs, but none with the specific questions I've laid out above.

I love mine. .470 NE. No issues. No complaints. Since I bought it 3 months ago I’ve shot 15 rounds/barrel. Even though it’s regulated for Woodleigh, it’s shooting the Hornady DGX pretty consistently.

I owned a Chapuis Elan and liked it a lot. Way better then the Sabatti and Merkel I owned and better than the K-Gun I played with. The Chapuis fit me great and balanced great. Because of the longer LOP (for me) recoil was much better. I sold it for a Hyem, and decided after, the Chapuis fit me better so I bought another Chapuis.

Overall I think the Hyem is slightly better in terms of quality and finish. It was the fit where I liked the Chapuis better and you’ll need to consider I was comparing a NiB Chapuis vs someone else’s built to their spec used Hyem. Lock-up in the Hyem was better but again you’re comparing a 20yo used double vs a new one that’s a little stiff.

I’ve since sold the Chapuis and the Hyem heading upstream again for British built guns because they point and swing better. Ironically the longer LOP I need is non-existent here unless I go new

Well I have owned a few
9.3x74 UGEX (Shot a eland and sable with it.) first Chapuis I owned, currently owned but another AH member.
3. RGEX's one in 8x57JRS and two in 9.3x74. The 8x57 was traded for one of the 9.3's ( That is my favorite rifle I own) The other was traded along with a couple other bolt guns for the 500/416 Krieghoff.

1 Iphisi in 375 H&H

so I currently have the RGEX and Iphisi that will be used for years to come.

I had one in 450-400 that was awesome...I personally think it is the best DR for the money. I paid right below $13,000 for a new one and they cut it down to my LOP given if you buy from Champlain, all their Chapuis are at 15 LOP with them offering to cut it down to your LOP free!!! I only sold it because I wanted a larger caliber.

NB - exporting from France is a pain, but if you are after a Chapuis this, I suggest, would be an excellent combo and make the hassle worthwhile.

I have a slightly nicer-finished 9.3x74R Chapuis, which is an excellent rifle. It is also highly praised by Pierre van der Walt and Gregor Woods; this model and calibre combination seems be 'the dandy'. However, the same model in other calibres is supposed to be badly balanced: I can't speak to that.

I have a 9.3x74R UGEX Progress. I like it. Still chasing a load that replicates what they did at the factory - 2 shots in a ragged hole at 50m. Best load to date have given a 20mm L & R at 50m. The fit, feel and finish is impressive. Very pleasing timber.
