Qatar airlines Question

No but I am connecting to Qatar in Dallas Via AA in May

I had no issues so far and am Using Jennifer @TRAVEL EXPRESS
She has spoken to Qatar on my behalf and says I just re check rifle bag in Dallas at Qatar desk
When are you leaving for Africa? I leave May17 Qatar out of Seattle, Arrive Johannesburg May 19

Emailed my Qatar paperwork yesterday got email today said would be forward to appropriate airports. Jen at Travel Express also sent them the info I was traveling with guns. This is all I have ever done on previous flights with them. Never an issue. But I am flying out of Houston also.

The issue is they don’t recognize award tickets issued from another airline even thought they belong to one world , think I am getting it handled but for $$

I'm having a seemingly similar problem - I booked the tickets (approx 6 months ago) directly on their website in order to avoid any third parties and blameshifting if any delays or other mishaps were to occur. No 'miles' or 'awards' or so, paid with cash - so to speak. Fast forward a few months, and I get an email saying that my flight had been cancelled.

I logged in with my booking reference, and it turned out that they had 'only' changed from Qatar to Finnair (both of them in the OneWorld alliance) on the first leg (Stockholm-Doha). Also the flight times were a little different, but not by much. So I thought "fine" - but little did I know.

When I called them a few days ago to get the firearms approval, I was informed that I could NOT bring the rifle/ammunition since the complete flight was not "operated" by Qatar. It was suggested that I should - just in case they could do something - send in all the paperwork to some address (pfcdoha@qatarairways.com.qa), but all I got was an automated reply along the lines "Thank you for contacting us..."

Called them back an hour ago, and nothing seems to have changed. The rep I spoke to said that he could book me on another flight 3 days later, but unfortunately that does not work with all the arrangements planned/booked in Namibia.

This is most annoying. And nowhere on their website, or in the conversations with Qatar ppl, was it ever mentioned that firearms are not acceptable unless it is Qatar all the way. Until a few days ago that is...

And it does not the help that the local number for their customer/booking service seems to be re-routed to some very far away place where the lines (and English skills) are less than perfect.

Not sure if anything can be done about it at this late stage, as we're leaving in less than 48 hours.

Bummer.

My experience with Qatar is that the personnel at the airport is very competent and knowledgeable. The customer service line is a gamble. I have called 3 times to confirm information and then upon booking things changed. If you have an airport nearby with AA/Qatar desk it might be worth going to the airport to get the answers from the people who are actually verifying the paperwork etc.

My broker says I should have approval 15 days before departure, they have a Qatar rep assigned to them, I agree it’s a horrible policy. My American rep tried to get approval but could not in writung, they wanted me to show up in Atlanta and though it would be approved…no way, …just another way of making it harder to travel with firearms…someone’s agenda

I hate to read this kind of things, but I do appreciate you sharing. What a pain. I have a flight booked using award fare (alaska airlines) on Qatar. I hope all goes smoothly for you and thank you for the heads up that I might have an issue!

Make sure and call them and confirm..I did and that’s when the the nightmare started.
‘Good luck, the travel broker I contacted says my issued SHOULD be resolved 2 weeks before departure but no guarantees until then

Keep us updated, I'm less than 30 days out, I chatted with Qatar yesterday & they said my permission for gun is in the process

Hope you situation got resolved too! Please let us know how your trip went!

Guys this is why I advise to PAY for your flights (through an agent) involving rifles! Save your miles, like I do, to take the Mrs. somewhere nice.
I am sorry this has happened to you but it's a good lesson for others.

Gracy travel was able to get the firearms approved. Qatar would not help me but since they had a contact they were able to get it done.
Had to wait until 10 days before departure but it looks like we are ok to go.
I hope everyone you replied has good luck

I wouldn’t use Qatar again after my experience with the last year. One of my fights was cancelled. I had an email offering a refund or an alternative flight a day earlier. I cancelled and it then took me over six months of phone calls and emails to get a partial refund. They then charged me a very large admin fee to process the refund. I wouldn’t use them again now.

They said no more than 72 hours but I am sending today as per American and we will see what happens
Don't you have access to the Executive Platinum desk at AA? They should Be able to help.
please keep us informed how it goes.
