Proper Gin and Tonic

This is not my go to, but if you’ve read Ruark you’ve heard of “pink gin.” This is my interpretation:

In a whiskey glass, fill a quarter full of cubed ice, then fill another quarter full with crushed ice (that’s half full, for those of you in Rio Linda).
Add bout + oz gin
Top with HEB lime mineral water OR your preferred tonic water
Garnish with lime wedge
God bless Rush.

For a G&T I usually use 1 part Bombay Sapphire, 2 parts Fever Tonic & a big lime wedge. I always just eyeball it & enjoy it at whatever strength level its at even if I get the proportions wrong. Since I like Sapphire martinis with a twist, a strong gin drink is fine. If I'm mixing one for someone else it's about 1 part to 3 parts and then I let them ask for a stronger second drink.

Most of the gin I've been drinking lately has been Citadelle in a French 75 or a Tom Collins because that's what the some of the ladies in our social group prefer. I just drink what everyone else is having since I'm often the bartender & it keeps things simple when we're all cooking a big meal.

I gave Campari a try in a couple of Negroni cocktails & I can definitely say it is not to my liking. But vive la différence since I know it's a popular drink with some people.
Not a vermouth fan.

Gin/rocks, G&T, gin and campari, very dry gin martini, so dry that you just sorta wave a bottle of vermouth at it from 8 or 10 feet away.

Did someone say G&Ts?

I can’t stand pure gin , prefer the sloe or pink ( must been from snacking on juniper berries as a kid I think )

But look up Harahorn gin or Hellstrøm , both Norwegian and quite good the regular versions of them . Not so juniper thick , lighter and citrusy ones .

1/4 glass of ice cubes, half a glass or so of tanquery(sp), 1/4 glass of tonic(prefer Canada Dry), a slice of lime squeezed into drink then drop what’s left of the slice in, sit outside and light up a good cigar (mosquito control), then repeat.

Recipes? Eh, there a lot out there. never used one.

Some form of tonic, preferably with a lot of flavor.

Ice cubes, cleanest and biggest available. Not crushed ice.

Gin, I have five or six bottles here. I used to be a Bombay fan, but I prefer Gortons. I have a couple other ones, but Gordon's is what I lik

I drink a gin and tonic when I dont want to drink. I can make one last a long time. I will take a neat burbon any day.

I don't have a specific gin as I tend to collect gins as I travel. I have 5 or so from South Africa and then a lot from around the US. One gin that I can't get anymore that I really liked was Bombay Sapphire East which had peppercorns in it. Gave the G&T just a bit of a bite.

My recipe is generally 2 oz of gin, lots of ice, and then a can or bottle of a good tonic in an insulated tumbler. My favorite tonic waters are Fever Tree (in all the variations) and Franklin & Sons. The latter is a British tonic we found at a local grocery remainder store. I wish I had bought more! Q is also generally good.

Hendricks (the hell with the slice of cucumber)
Fever Tree tonic
Slice of lime
Use to do the dash of bitters but grew out of it.
Sounds perfect, or Plymouth gin with bitters for a pink gin.

I much prefer pink gin. No idea why it has gone out of fashion.

according to @SFRanger7GP a proper Gin & Tonic is made by allowing a full glass of gin to see a bottle of tonic water, but only for a moment.. you're not allowed to put any tonic in the gin...

bitters arent allowed either.. nor is a slice of lime..

:D

I have a bottle of the Hendricks Orbium which gives it more of a quinine kick. I quite like it.
