Ray B, is your 1962 700 serial number over 10,000? Mine is in the 9000 range.

It's 69XX and as noted, the barrel date code is June 1962. For one that is 5 digit I'd guess it is well before 1972. I noticed that the bolt sleeve on later model 700s was longer so that it enclosed the striker even when cocked, but I don't know when that change was made. the other thing about serial numbers is that after 1968 the number would have been specifically for the M700 due to the GCA68 act, so it would have had whatever letter or designation Remington used for the 700. It would be much more than just a 5 digit number. So yours was probably made 1968 or earlier.

What a great way to kick off our 2025 hunting season in South Africa.

This beautiful Impala ram was taken at just over 300 yards, took a few steps and toppled over.

We are looking forward to the next week and a half of hunting with our first client of the year.

Do you have any more copies of African Dangerous Game Cartridges, Author: Pierre van der Walt ? I'm looking for one. Thanks for any information, John [redacted]
