I have an older friend that has been collecting Pre-64's since the the late 1960's; I know certain rare calibers like .300H&H, .257Rob & 250-3000 bring a premium; but he has one caliber I've never heard of an M70 being chambered in Especially a pre-64 being chambered in....

9.3x64 Brenneke - He says it came out of their custom shop and that he had only heard of one other chambered in this caliber but had never seen one in person.

When he told me about it I first thought it had to be a rebarrel/ aftermarket custom; as I had heard that counterfeits/fakes had been made after the factory stamps were sold off..... But when I got this picture I was surprised to see a 9.3x64 with what appears to be a factory barrel?

From what I have read there were a rare few made in 7.65mm & 9x57 to try and attract European buyers prior to WWII; and even after that you could order special calibers that were not "catalogued calibers"

Currently the picture above is the only one I have; I'm supposed to meet up with him and document/catalogue his collection as soon as the covid craze is over and I'm trying to gather any additional information I can before then.

Write to the Winchester museum in Cody Wyoming and give them all the details. They may know something

Good day @deewayne2003 .
Your pre 1964 Winchester Model 70 was indeed , chambered from the factory in 9.3x64 mm Brenekke . It was made circa 1948 . I have seen and held a pre 1964 Winchester Model 70 of an identical vintage , which was chambered in 10.75x68 mm Mauser . They were part of a short lived limited edition series . They were also made in 9.5x57 mm Mannlicher Schoenauer .

Hello deewayne,

I couldn't find the Mannlicher-Schoenauer 9,3x64 thread. But, fortunately, I save that thread pictures!
If any member, or the member who started it, can give the link, I also will be very glad!
Here the pictures:

A great rifle in an excellent caliber.

If this is really a Winchester Pre-64 Non-standard Chambering it would be something! The list below is reported Non-standard chamberings:(from R. Rule)
.22 Wilson Arrow*. 280 Ross. 7.92x57mm*
225 Win. .284 Win*. .348 Win
240 Apex. 30-30*. 9x57mm*
.240 Page*. 7.65x53*. .405 Win*
6.5x55 Swede*. 303 Brit*. .416 Rigby
* verified factory original specimen
Hope to hear more on this rifle.

Cheers,
Cody

Professor Mawla - Thank you for the information and I'm glad you shared it with us. I recently read your article about the problem Cheetah you encountered on your duck shakari only to find out it was a Royal Bengal Tiger ... while armed with a shotgun and torch!

Professor Mawla, can you tell me where I would find any additional written history or information on this 9.3x64 Winchester?

I called the museum, the records they have on hand for the M70 are very limited and the serial number of this rifle is not in the range of documents they have for this model.

FYI if anyone can come up with additional information of this Rifle the serial# is 121XX - (last two digits left blank for privacy)

Non-original barrel and a custom project? I’m doubtful that’s an original Winchester produced 10.75

Thank you very much . Please try to get ahold of Winchester Western’s 1947 catalog . I clearly recall seeing an advertisement there about there rare calibre Model 70 rifles .
